Have followed suggestions to clear this issue without success. On Linux Mint how to remove : Policies, 'Active' "DisableAppUpdates", "True" - "Your browser is being managed by some organization." "Updates disabled by some system administrator"/w more issues, being blocked by the same problem from accessing the internet using a NIC cable, am using Wireless. Have been working with this issue from about 0200 this morning 1/19/22. Used one feature, "about:config" but my problem still is there. The issue with 'Policies' is a little more than I can handle. My FFx v96.0.1, Linux Mint Cinnamon v19.3 at this time, best of my memory, @82 Y/Od; Attempted a ScreenShot and could not reduce the size. Just note: "Your browser is being managed by your organization." is displayed top of all pages in "Settings."

Most likely, the Linux Mint version of Firefox has a policies.json file which is setting the No Update policy. The purpose of that policy is to rely on the package manager for your updates.

I honestly do not know whether it is a good idea to remove that policy; this change is very new.

Excuse me please, neglected to inform you when this happened was on a webpage (YouTube), cannot remember exactly what one, attempted to go on to another web link (Local weather) and every thing STOPPED, FFx posted a message that it had to do something and would be right back, just a minute or less is when this all started and seem to remember something about GOOGLE.

Not solved, just better understanding of the issue. Need 'root' access to EDIT 'policies.json' to change to 'false' to see what happens to the issue at hand. Is the 'terminal' needed to make the edit on that JSON file? Or can this be done with Text Editor accessing 'system files' from 'Computer' on Desk Top doing a search for that file. OR is this just NOT advisable @ this time?

I feel still "NEWBIE" just not familiar with doing some of this EDITING/adjusting some special files.

IF an alter-ego is created as another USER as ADMINISTRATOR will that give sufficient access to make modifications?

Firefox cannot handle its own updates. It doesn’t know how to check the repositories and doesn’t have admin privileges anyway. In Linux Mint this is the job of the Update Manager so Firefox is told not to handle updates. In the past, this was done via code changes. We (mint devs) patched Firefox not to do it and not to show any warning about it. This is how it is in Debian and Ubuntu as well. With this transition this is done via a policy file, i.e. via system-wide configuration. Firefox shows the following messages in the preferences and in the about dialog as a result: Your browser is being managed by your administration Updates disabled by system administrator These messages can be quite confusing, especially the first one. Please ignore them for now. We’ll be reporting the issue to get it fixed upstream.

TyDraniu,

I thank you very much for the explanation. This is also causing my system to not have access to the NET, it is blocking my NIC cable or 'Hard Wire' to my Router. Presently using WireLess connection. Through my LapTop cpu. As mentioned before, am not experienced in the handling of some of these issues, completely SelfTaught and not up to speed with Linux. Have tested and looked into Mandrake, Suse, Red Hat, and many more.

Greetings from TEXAS,

This is the location I was accessing when the change was made that caused my issue. The presentation apon my screen: "Sorry. We just need to do one small thing to keep going.."and the link is the following: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1365076#answer-1476059 Hope this will assist you in solving this issue for my system.

Have attempted to remove that 'policy' even as ROOT without any success. Why is this 'policy' effecting my Hard-wire connection to the internet?

"Sorry. We just need to do one small thing to keep going." is the restart-required-header message that shows on the about:restartrequired page.

Sorry. We just need to do one small thing to keep going.
Firefox has just been updated in the background.
Click Restart Firefox to complete the update.
We will restore all your pages, windows and tabs afterwards, so you can be on your way quickly.

cor-el.

If I may address you directly? Due to my ignorance/stupidity the thought of using the "Time Shift" feature never occurred to me. Due to this dumb activity, lost my Hardwired (NIC/Network Interface Cable) connection to my ISP`s Router also called 'Ethernet.' My previous reports were done using the WiFi hookup, I prefer calling it my wireless connection. That said and done, now for the latest, your message I quote:

"Sorry. We just need to do one small thing to keep going. Firefox has just been updated in the background. Click Restart Firefox to complete the update. We will restore all your pages, windows and tabs afterwards, so you can be on your way quickly." DOA! (Dead On Arrival) was my resultant action, nothing would work nor restore in any fashion. Tried everything I could think of, my WireLess was also DEAD.

This morning a different idea came to me, "Time Shift" did this from date January, 18, 2022, VOLA! back in business/w both NIC and WireLess working again. Did you see my last message about where and what caused my issue? If NOT let me know and will resend.
