HDMI Sound problems

When I attempt to use my TV as a screen and for sound by connecting my Windows 10 laptop through an HDMI cable, the picture comes through fine; when i open facebook or youtube, no sound comes through on the tv and a little sound is heard on the laptop however the system sound control does not work--can't mute it; can't make it louder. I do not have this problem when using Chrome or Edge.

How do i get sound to the TV?
