firefox top icon isn't working on private broswing mode

When i go to change the top sites icon to something else it will not work(shown in the screenshot). It only works when in "Remember History" mode which I don't what. Is there a way to keep it in private browsing mode and have the icons at the same time?

It's not possible because Firefox saves the icons into the Firefox cache. The Firefox cache is something that's disabled when you run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
