Firefox Data Concerns When Upgrading PC with Windows 7 to 10
My PC has Windows 7 and I use Firefox for my Browser. If I upgrade to Windows 10 are my current Documents, Downloads and Bookmarks on Firefox at risk?
Chosen solution
When you launch the Windows 10 installer on a Windows 7 system -- starting a process that will take several hours -- Windows 10 should detect your existing data and offer choices about how to handle it, for example, keep my stuff or remove everything. (This assumes you didn't take any irreversible actions like formatting your drive.)
Since you sound like a person that would be upset if that didn't go according to plan, it would be a good idea to make a backup copy of your files in a safe place, such as an external hard drive or cloud backup site. Generally speaking, Documents and Downloads may be stored in folders on your system that only you would know about, so your backup should include all the relevant folders. For Firefox bookmarks, you have several options, and you can use more than one:
- Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
- JSON-format backup file for bookmarks only: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer
- HTML-format export file for bookmarks only: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks
Good luck with the big update!
