Hi Jeff, Ctrl+F5 should reload the current page, so it's odd that your Firefox would close.

Do you have Firefox set to restore your session automatically? If not, and your session wasn't restored, then automatic crash recovery didn't kick in, which implies that Firefox didn't crash, it exited normally as though you had chosen Exit from the menu or closed every window. Strange!

When you started up again, were either of these are available (not hidden or grayed out):

  • "3-bar" menu button > Restore Previous Session
  • (menu bar) History > Restore Previous Session

If they are missing or grayed, check whether you can re-open closed windows (Firefox should remember up to 3 if you don't clear history at shutdown):

  • "3-bar" menu button > Library > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • "Library" toolbar button > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • (menu bar) History > Recently Closed Windows

Circling back to the question of what is going on with that keyboard shortcut, can you rule out an extension as the culprit? Particularly anything directed toward closing popups or stopping pages from refreshing would be a suspect.

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that sounds like it might be at all concerned about pages reloading or popup windows? Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). In fact, if there is an extension you can live without for a few hours, you might as well disable it for testing.

Any improvement?
