entering 8.8.8.8 gave a 'The connection has timed out' message whereas '<a href="http://www.google.ca" rel="nofollow">www.google.ca</a>' gives the <em>server not found' message.

None of the internet sites I use daily connect yet I can 'connect' to the router. Cuiously my desktop has the same Firefox version(52.3.0ESR) which I believe was the last one that ran on XP and allowed a couple 'add-ons' I use. I just don't undersand why it works on a desktop and not the laptop.. same OS, same firefox, same router.....

What DNS server is currently selected?
