Hi m.kamareddine7, is your history from that time also missing (you can use the Show Al History or Ctrl+Shift+h keyboard shortcut to check)?

Have you noticed any other odd changes when you start up, such as losing settings changes or add-ons?

Do you use Sandboxie or Portable Firefox, or any other non-standard method of running Firefox?

Firefox can work with multiple profiles, each of which has an independent copy of your data that can vary from the others. Could you check whether your more recent data is available in a different profile, as follows:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Have you discovered anything interesting so far?

I only have one profile. Problem - there was some sort of update on Saturday and when I started my laptop today the past two weeks of bookmarks are gone. I looked in back ups but the only back up is for today. Trouble they are VERY important research and now it is all gone. Is there anyway of getting the previous version and the backups that go with it? How often does firefox do backups. I am so upset about this that I am thinking of going back to Explorer and dumping Firefox completely, you have really done some serious damage.

Is your history also been lost?

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

If you lost personal data then it is possible that a new default-release profile folder has been created. See "Determine if Firefox has created a new profile":

You can open the about:profiles page via the location bar to check whether multiple profiles are present and what profile Firefox currently is using.

Here are the results but I don't think it will help. This morning (after finding as many of the losts bookmarks as possible) I found that it had all been lost again. It is almost as though it is winding the browser back in time. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled, which is why i am not sure if those results will help. Also (yesterday) when I went looking for a restore point there was none but when i entered %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in Run dialog it found them all but could not get firefox to recognise the file path. Then today I could get it to recognise it but the past two weeks bookmarks were not there and there was only one restore point for November, as though it had never happened. Trouble is I am now paranoid of ever shutting down my computer again. So am going to do manual HTML back up to a thumb drive. All thoughts and suggestions gratefully received . thanks Lisa
