Message in options "your organization has disabled the ability to change some options"
Why am I no longer able to change some options ? why am I suddenly getting this message ? and how can I switch it off ? The message has only appeared recently. I have been using Avast for years, so it can't be that. The only thing I've changed recently is sync-ing my Google Drive. I have seen lots of other posts about this, but, not being a techy, I cannot make sense of the answers/suggestions and am terrified of making any changes to the Registry Editor. Also, there is no policies.json file on my laptop, which is Windows 7 64-bit. Help .... please.

Yes, I saw those answers, but I don't understand what they mean or what I am supposed to do - nor do I know how to use the Windows Registry Editor. The only active policy in Firefox is "Certificates" and there is no Distribution folder in the Mozilla folder.
Some security software like Kaspersky and AVG act as a man-in-the-middle use GPO rules to inject their root certificate in Firefox to be able to monitor secure HTTPS connections. You can either disable this feature
You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and possibly in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

Note that the mere presence of the "Mozilla\Firefox\" key is sufficient to make Firefox display this notification, so if you have the Firefox key then remove it and only leave the Mozilla key or remove this key as well if it is empty.

Thanks for your help, cor-el - and FredMcD, for the links to other posts about the same problem. My problem is that I'm an IT amateur - sorry. I don't know how to inspect the registry keys, or where to find HKEYs and a search of my hard drive didn't come up with anything - plus being v.nervous about making any changes in Registry Editor, if that is where they are.
