Bookmark library seems to keep searching over and over, slowing the browser down. How to prevent this?

Doing a search, It has gone through the whole registry and displayed all results, but seemingly, it keeps searching as adding new bookmarks creates a significant delayed response, but most importantly, it slows down website loading and even navigation through the tabs/windows (for whatever reason).

Is there a config option that i can turn off so it doesn't search anymore unless i make a new query?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode;

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

That is how it works. There are event listeners that monitor changes to the database and re-initiate the query when changes are detected to ensure you get the correct results,. This is not a fixed list, but is dynamic and can be updated at any time when changes are detected. As long as you do not make changes then there won't be a new search initiated. This also happens when you query the history; in this case you get a new entry at the top if you would open a history item and the original item you clicked is hidden.

Right, but how do i disable it? It serves no purpose to me and I would very much like to trade it for a non-horrible FF experience.

Good, no problem with the database.

You have a very high bookmarks count (195004) and a database size of 128 MB, so that would explain that you get delays when a new search is initiated. With such an high count best is probably not to keep such a search active, but clear the search bar or copy the data to a file.

Are you using Sync as that can have effect as well?

  • Table moz_bookmarks has 195004 records
  • Table moz_places has 192832 records
  • Table moz_bookmarks_deleted has 10101 records

I don't use sync and I don't mind a delay when searching; It happens fast enough.

The problem is, that having the library open, affects the browser performance for no beneficial reason.

Are you saying it's not possible to disabled it?

Not that I know, you can't pause a query in a list that is open. You would have to close the list and reopen or temporarily append a character that invalidates the query).

But the query is finished. Any monitoring is superfluous since the only change that could possibly happen, is me making a new bookmark, which means it doesn't need to be included in the query..

But i guess it is what it is. Thanks for the replies

Search queries and other lists that appear the the left panel and the right panel in the Library aren't static. If you leave the Library window open then changes to bookmarks and history will appear and the display is updated. You can see that window as a search query, when the search bar is empty then you get the full list. The Library has an Undo command in the Organize menu that allows to undo any changes made to bookmarks during the current session.

I know. It's what i am saying in my original post. But displaying any changes is superfluous since i just made them...

How is that supposed to help the topic?
