I am running with Firefox 66.0b13 (64-bit) and ubuntu 18.04.2

This morning my computer started downloading stuff. This went on for over an hour. I check the download in tools and the only thing there was something from yesterday which was done yesterday. The reason I noticed is because it was sucking up all my internet.

Is there anyway to see just what firefox is downloading and where its putting it?

thank you..............

Have you noticed this happening only when Firefox is open?

Have you tried the "OffLine" option on the browser?

Firefox should not be downloading anything unless you tell it to. However, there are auto-updates that will.

Are you sure that it's Firefox doing the downloading? Press <Control> J to open the Download Manager.

Normal downloads can be found in the Library in the Downloads folder. Other files might be downloaded to the storage folder (indexedDB) in the main profile folder. There can also be files in the disk cache (about:cache page) and in the parent folder used for the disk cache.

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder. Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/.mozilla/firefox/

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files (Local Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/.cache/mozilla/firefox/

Thank you for the reply.........

I have a program that shows my network activity. Right now, for instance, something is downloading.

if I enter sudo ss -ntp in a terminal I can get reports on network activity like (I am using a linux system): ESTAB 0 0 10.31.10.6:56706 52.84.25.114:443 users:(("firefox",pid=2299,fd=198))

This is really not a big deal as I am not noticing my drive filling up with unwanted stuff. I was just wondering what was going on. I think, between the operating system and firefox things are just downloading this and that.

This is a secure connection to AWS.

52.84.25.114:443 Amazon AWS Network Operations

Mozilla uses AWS for some services like email, but that shouldn't involve transfering a large amount of data.
