Hello, so I work from home virtually for one of the largest call centers in the country that provides support for a variety of clients. For my client we need to use Java for our "chat" feature to communicate with our supervisor and other agents in the field and also to access the schedule to pick and release work shifts. I noticed that my speed in moving thru screens online was a bit slow so I went ahead and upgraded to the newest version of Firefox yesterday having no idea it wasn't compatible with Java. Now I can't communicate with my team or pick up or release shifts. So I am in a bit of a pickle. I need to uninstall and reinstall the previous version of Java. Not exactly sure what that was or how to do that. It feels like ages since I had to. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can't 'undo' an upgrade. What you can do is;

Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link} Be sure to read everything here.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

You should also check out Firefox; Extended Support Release {web link} ESR Notes System Requirements

Note: Some files are changed between Firefox versions and are Not Compatible.

When you install the older version, switch to manual and place the old version in its own folder. Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox 54\

Once the old version is installed, do not run it yet. You will need to create a new profile for it. Let me know when you are ready.

Hello fsupolito,

If you really need to use Java, you could download Firefox 52.9.0esr (which will get no more security updates) and choose your locale :

http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32/

Note that you need 32-bit as Win64 only allows the Flash Player and Silverlight Plugins to run.

Also see :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/npapi-plugins

If you only need Java on one site, you could use the portable Firefox 52.9.0 ESR, as it will not interfere with your Firefox release version and profiles (assuming you will be using a supported Windows version and the latest Firefox version).

Otherwise IE is the only web browser that still allows the ever vulnerable Java Plugin from Oracle to run.

Chromium, Chrome and Opera dropped support of NPAPI Plugins (which includes Java) back in Sept 2015.

You could look into Java web start.

Also Oracle has been in process of depreciating their Java Plugin as it is not in Java 9 but still in Java 8.
