Hi, so you open Firefox, then you open a Privacy Browser then close the Privacy Browser. You still have cache and cookies in Firefox unless you clean out the regular one or change it's settings on what to do with cache and cookies.

Hi DavidDeBord, could you just do a "one-site" test.

(1) Start Firefox with no cache or cookies showing in CCleaner.

(2) Visit a site that sets cookies.

(3) While on the page, check the Cookies dialog, either:

• right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
• (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
• click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

The site address is pre-filled at the time. If you clear that, Firefox should show ALL cookies.

(4) Use "Clear Recent History" to clear cache and cookies (you don't have to clear history, you can uncheck all boxes other than cache and cookies).

(5) Repeat step #3 to confirm the cookies are gone.

(6) Exit Firefox using the menu --

• "3-bar" menu button > Exit
• (menu bar) File > Exit

(7) Check CCleaner again

Also make sure you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode because that disables storing data in the profile folder and also prevents clearing data stored in the profile folder.

Note that CCleaner may also complain about data stored in (permanent) local storage (IndexedDB).

If I'm Understanding You correctly, .... You want me to start Ccleaner before Firefox,, ... ensure that there are no "Cookies", etc. listed, then start Firefox, go to a site that uses "Cookies", then "View those "Cookies" & then Clear them, then go to the "Clear history" etc., & Clear them?

Why can't I run Firefox in Private browsing mode.

I was under the impression that this would cut down/ eliminate unwanted "Cookies", as well as "Monitoring", or at least cut it down somewhat.

Another "Oddity" that I just noticed, ....

It was 6-am Pacific Time. The forum should show times according to your own time zone, so if that's not working, make sure you're logged in.

When Firefox starts in automatic private mode, you can see old history and cookies from the days when you ran in regular mode, but you cannot clear it unless you switch back to regular mode.

Yes. See whether Firefox can clean up manually using "Clear Private Data." But if you are using automatic private browsing ("Never Remember History") then you don't need to clean up current session data because it is held temporarily in memory and CCleaner shouldn't find it when it checks your profile folder files.

I was logged in when I noticed the time difference.

I start/ close down, the Browser in the "Privacy mode" all of the time, at least I think that I am, but as far as switching back & forth? No, I leave it on one setting.

I also "clean " (Cookies, Cache, etc. removal) via the Privacy settings before I Sign Off. 

What I am seeing,is what I've picked up, or Firefox has recorded, each time I am on the Net'

I Started Ccleaner, before starting Firefox,as you asked, & it only shows Files from the Desktop, & nothing from Firefox.

Thanks for testing that. So if --

• start normally => new mystery cookies appear in CCleaner
• start in Firefox's safe mode => no mystery cookies appear in CCleaner

-- then it sounds as though one or more of your extensions is creating the cookies.

We're not communicating here.

The Cookies/ Cache of the Sites that I go to, on the Net', are Supposed to be Scrubbed/ Cleaned away, when I go to & use the "Privacy & Security" tab in Options of Firefox.

What, I thought was "cleaned away", by removing them in "History", "Cached Web Content", & "Site Data", & it is indicated as having been removed in those tabs, .... Upon returning to my Desktop, & Starting Piriform's Ccleaner, .... It shows that they are still there.

Firefox, even though it states that all was removed, ... Has Not Done So.

I see you are monitoring/participating in the other thread but for the record, I added a post there about HSTS data in the SiteSecurityServiceState.txt file which could be what CCleaner is finding.
