more options

A message showed up when I opened FireFox saying "your Mozzila is running slooow refresh your Mozzilla today. So I did the refresh. I now have lost bookmarks and settings. Also the sync I did with the program weeks ago no longer works AND WORST OF ALL You Added Add-Ons I DIDN'T Need or Want without even asking. So Now I have to spend a bunch of time getting it set up the way I liked It. Or maybe Not. Is definitely time to find a new BROWSER!

The "Mozzila is running slow" is an automatic message.

Refreshing Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !

Refreshing Firefox -- easily fix most problems

If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks and open tabs. Everything else, like user settings and add-ons, are removed.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

To Fred McD, I have been using Mozzila FireFox for many years now, Now as I get older can't excatly rember quite when but at least ten years, and have had VERY few problems and those were easily solved on my own. I have never had Refresh your FireFox come up before. Nor did anything on the message say "Only Use Refresh as a Last Resort." And yes I did get the old files on my desktop ,BUT unfortunatly I am still missing 3/4 of my bookmarks, and the way I had FireFox configured for me is now shot to hell. Anyway I am now going to have to spend a lot of time in finding a new browser, remembering all my bookmarks and configureng the new browser to my specs. BOGUS! When a 'refresh' is done, the old profile is moved to a folder on your desktop. If you want, we can copy the files you want to the current profile.

Hi Robert, I'm sorry to hear about the disruption. Were you already running Firefox 57 before the Refresh or did the change occur at the same time. Due to the change to the shape of tabs and toolbar layout, I'm sure you would notice a major difference.

Firefox 57 made the bookmarks menu button () optional. If you add that, it should work the same way as the old bookmarks menu button (), which was the "right-half" of the inseparable star+book duo. Hopefully that will help with bookmark access.

To add that button, either:

(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar

(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?

  • Click the "Library" button:
  • Click "Bookmarks"
  • Click "Bookmarking Tools"
  • Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"

To turn different toolbars on and off, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
  • (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily.
  • in Customize mode > Show/Hide Toolbars (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)

To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.

What other changes to the user interface do you need to correct or re-do?
