How do I move the bookmarks icon to the left side of the screen?

Are you trying to drag the Bookmarks icon from inside the Library icon? There is a separate Bookmarks button located in the Customization palette (3-bar menu --> Customize or right click an empty space in your Firefox bar and click Customize)
