I did it and it was already turned on.... No change. Still looking for a solution... :)

Is this with just this website?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

• Clear the Cache and

• Remove Cookies

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

Type about:preferences<enter> in the address bar.

• Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select

Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.

• Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from

Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode;

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Then restart. Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems?

On my Windows, Google.ca uses Arial as the font for the results page. Could you check what font is being used on your results page? If you right-click some "?" text and choose Inspect Element (Q), Firefox should open the Inspector in the lower part of the tab with the selected elements highlighted in an HTML tree diagram. On the right side, there is a box with various panels. By default, the Rules panel might display. Activate the Fonts panel to see what font is being used on the page. Is it Arial (or Arial Bold for headings)?

Does it make any difference if you disable "instant results" on the search settings page: https://www.google.com/preferences ?

Do you use any security filters that intercept and decode your browsing requests? Products with this feature include Avast, Bitdefender, ESET, and Kaspersky.

As a footnote, another Mac user posted about 5 weeks ago that all the characters on Google were replaced with a letter A in a box. That wasn't solved definitively, but you can review these threads for thoughts on that situation:
