Why is there sometimes a number at the beginning of a page name in a tab?

For the past several days, sometimes a tab will have a number in parentheses at the beginning of it's name. Usually it is "(1)", but right now I have one that is "(4)". What does this number mean, and why does it do this. And is there any way for me to make it stop? Right now it is only doing it to pages at YouTube, but I believe it has done it to others, and it doesn't do it to every YouTube page. Reloading the page often makes the number go away.

It's the notifications from YouTube. Click the bell icon on the main YouTube page, there should be a number.
