Sorry that your experience with Firefox isn't going as smoothly as it should be.
I am assuming that you are attempting to download and install Firefox on your system and that the error is occurring during the installation? Please ensure that you have downloaded Firefox from the Mozilla website.
Also ensure that there is no security/privacy software blocking the installation. If you think that this is the cause, please try temporarily disabling your antivirus and firewall until the installation is complete.
Further information about downloading and installing Firefox on a Windows machine can be located in this Mozilla support article:
It worked on first try from the correct website provided. Thank you so much!
Glad that I could help. We hope that you will enjoy using Firefox. Thanks for contacting the Mozilla support team. If you have any issues in the future, please feel free to get in touch with us again.
when trying to open the browser it says : Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It maybe missing or inaccessible. What can I do?
Usually Firefox will create your Firefox profile upon installation, but there are some cases when it doesn't.
Please open the Windows run dialog (Windows key + R) and enter
firefox.exe -p to open the Firefox profile manager. If there are no profiles listed, you can create one from the profile manager and set it as the default.
Further information on the profile manager can be found in this Mozilla support article:
Please let us know if this fixes the issue.
I get this message again : Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.
the article could work if the profile exe file would just open.
You need to enter
firefox.exe -p and make sure to put a space before the
If that doesn't work, check to see if you have any Firefox profiles on your computer:
%appdata%/Mozilla/Firefox/Profilesin the Windows run dialog
- List any folders located in this location
%appdata%/Mozilla/Firefoxin the Windows run dialog
- Open the
profiles.inifile in Notepad
- Copy and paste the contents of that file into this forum
This will allow me to see why Firefox is not accessing your profile.
P.S. Really sorry about this. This is not a normal case, so Firefox is usually much much easier to setup than this.
I entered %appdata%/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles in the Windows run dialog. there are a lot of folders in that location. You want me to list them all? the folder name is : cubp0kjy.default-1445999713332
In that folder, there are 16 other folders and plus 29 more single files.
I entered %appdata%/Mozilla/Profiles and could not find profiles.ini file in the notepad. I found this :
Crach report folder with many files in it; Profiles folder with many files in it; a Profiles document of 1 KB for configuration settings that I cannot open
To open the
profiles.ini file you would need to right click on it and select Open with... and then select Notepad.
The file contents should look similar to this:
If it is something different, please copy and paste its contents into this forum for me to look at.
there is no such file named profiles.ini. and when trying to open a file names profiles it gives me Access Denied in the notepad dialog box
I found on line an uninstaller who uninstalled anything related to Mozilla and or Firefox. Then I reinstalled Firefox from the link you first provided. The problem of no profile is still preventing the program from opening. And when I go through your suggested steps afterwards, I get the same garbage back. I am at my wits end here....
Once again, very sorry about this. I understand your frustration 100%.
I will walk you through how to manually remove all Firefox related files and programs so that you can reinstall Firefox. Hopefully this will give us more success than you are having at the moment.
Please follow these steps:
- Download Firefox from the Mozilla website
- Close Firefox
- Locate the folder in which you installed Firefox, which will likely be:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox or
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Delete that folder
%appdata%in the Windows run dialog
- Delete the
- Run the Firefox installer
This should completely remove all pieces of Firefox and install a fresh copy of the newest version. Once it is completed, Firefox should automatically make you a new profile, ending the issue that you had before.
Let us know if this fixes it.
steps 1 to 5 worked. But step 6 says that I do not have access and require permission from administrator. There are 2 administrators. I am one. I have been trying to find out how to give myself permission to no avail. Suggestions?
You should be able to delete the folder with the Windows Command Prompt. Open the command prompt by typing
cmd into the Windows run dialog. In the command prompt, enter the following command:
RmDir /S /Q %appdata%\Mozilla
This should delete the folder. Enter the following code to verify that the folder has been deleted:
If the folder was deleted, the command prompt should say that it cannot find the specified path. Than try installing the downloaded version of Firefox.
Windows cannot find RmDir
So it would appear that you are having some sort of permissions issue on your system. If possible, try accessing the second administrator account and try deleting the folder from that account.
For some reason, Windows is not giving your account or Firefox access to the folder where Firefox data is stored. You will need to figure out why that is.
it worked. step 6 done. I will now proceed to install firefox from the link you provided earlier. I will get back to you to let you know if it is working or not. Chat to you soon.....
reinstalled ok. opening : cannot find my profile again. Tried firefox.exe -p
it does not open anything again.
