For the past two weeks FireFox along with all my other browsers have been crashing on my Macbook 2008. I'm running Yosemite. I have tried upgrading my harddrive, but that didn't fix the problem. I'd be very grateful for any help you can provide.

Your crashes are all over the place. I've called for more help.

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac Linux: Check your user manual.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Thanks for your continued help.

What is a registry scanner? and how do I run it?

more options

A registry scanner looks for and removes any bad entries in the computers registry. I don't where to get one for Mac's. You can bypass that if you want.

I tried to figure out how to mark the old Firefox files as old, but I don't think I understood that instruction correctly. Ultimately I downloaded Firefox again & installed it. The crashes are still happening & additionally causing my computer to reboot frequently.

Do you have any other suggestions I might try?

That is not what the instructions said.

Yes, I understand the part about adding .old, but on my Mac under applications there are no Firefox folders only the Firefox icon which when clicked opens the application. I tried right clicking on the icon which gave me the option to show contents folders, but that only showed a single folder named contents. It was possible to open the subfolders, but I wasn't sure if that was what you were referring to.

I tried to take a screen shot to show you what I'm referring to, but now my computer keeps shutting down randomly.
