places.sqlite - need to delete on every other FireFox restart

Posted

Dear community,

I have been using FireFox since the version 1.x - none of the problems I experienced in the past made me create an account on Mozilla.org. After the upgrade to 45 from 44 ( now 45.0.1 ) I need to delete places.sqlite to get the favorites and tabs open properly. Initially I tried to fix it via the plugin(s), and manually from the cmdline using various how-to's, and restoring the backups I make from time to time. I finally ended up staying on v44 for around 1-2 weeks. Since this is the only Windows system I am using as my desktop/workstation at work/home I blamed it again on "Windows". But finally the places.sqlite stopped "working" also on v44. So I keep on deleting it almost on every FF restart to get the favs back. I do not remember any new plugins being installed within a few weeks before noticing this problem.

Is there any other file that would have to be removed/fixed/checked in order to stop the corruption of the sqlite db? or a setting?

Thank you,

Mike

Chosen solution

I found the problem - it is my fault - I was running 2 way rsync backup (or rather synchronization) after closing all apps, including FireFox. It was updating newer or non-existing files. FireFox does not like that approach. This might be great for documents, photos, etc, but not for files that FireFox creates within the profile directory. I was trying to figure this out for quite a few days - a single post here made my brain function properly, finally, cool, thanks!
