After updating to firefox43.1 this morning (19th December) firefox is in constant crash mode. I've uninstalled and re-installed 3 or 4 times still to no avail. When i click to open it, a minimised screen appears with two 'new tab' buttons at the top and the firefox start page tab (3rd in from the left).

This hangs there for a few moments and then I get the firefox has crashed and has had to close message. This has now happened at least a dozen times. It was working perfectly until this latest update and I've had to download Google Chrome just to get online.... and it sucks. I really want to get back onto Firefox.... please help. I've tried to attach images/screen-grabs and the error file but they won't load up.

Thanks.

Nick G

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

That is a problem with the NVIDIA App Filter (nvappfilter.dll)

You can try to uninstall Nvidia network access manager via the Windows Control Panel.

Hi Thanks for this. Twice NVIDIA has been mentioned now. Are you asking me to delete a certail dll file or uninstall a certain part of it.

Thanks.

You shouldn't delete this file or Windows might not work properly, but you need to check the "Windows Control Panel > Programs" and uninstall the "NVIDIA Network Access Manager" (NVIDIA ForceWare Network Manager) and uninstall this component.

I'll try this, however when i tried this yesterday evening, the NVIDIA Network Access Manager although in the add/remove populated list in the control panel, it would not delete. Installshield pop-up box briefly appeared, but did not delete the program.

Please advise

Thanks.

Another question..... why was Firefox working quote happily before the 43.1 update? The NVIDIA ACCESS MANAGER didn't seem to be a problem with the previous version of Firefox.... why is it a problem now??

Can anyone answer this??

"Another question..... why was Firefox working quite happily before the 43.1 update? The NVIDIA ACCESS MANAGER didn't seem to be a problem with the previous version of Firefox.... why is it a problem now??"

the answer to that isn't known - something in the 3000+ changes in firefox 43 has caused these nvidia dlls hooking deep into the browser to misbehave. since this is a rather old and probably unmaintained software from windows xp days, the best way i see of dealing with it, when it is causing problems, is to remove it.

After a lot of fannying around, I have finally been able to uninstall NVIDIA Network Access Manager and i now have what looks to be a fully functional Firefox browser. The start page looks correct and all my saved bookmarks are there. HOWEVER, I cannot connect to ANY website. I have checked all the settings mentioned in your support section, but to no avail. I am still able to connect to websites with Google Chrome, but Firefox does not want to play ball and all i get is a 'Server Not Found' error message. I have attached a screen-shot of the error message. Please help.

Hello Philipp, many thanks for your quick reply. Very pleased to say that command entry worked and Firefox is now up and running as it should. It took a bit of time and i only really stumbled on the answer through googling and reading through some forum posts about removing NVIDIA Network Access Manager.

One of these posts pointed me in the direction of Revo Uninstaller which took it out via the registry as i could not remove it from the add/delete facility in the Control Panel. Your answer today about Firefox not finding the server was the final piece of the jigsaw, and everything is now working as it should. Thanks again for your help.
