Firefox goes unresponsive when watching Netflix or playing a certain game on Facebook.

There's no warning, no error messages. On watching Netflix, I click play and everything seems fine then the screen freezes and Firefox is suddenly unresponsive. When this happens I have to close Firefox by whatever means I can either by clicking 'X' or right-clicking up on the menu bar then selecting 'close'. I've even had to use ctrl+alt+delete to close Firefox and a few times my entire computer has froze forcing me to disconnect power. Firefox error reporting never comes up but Windows tries to search for a solution. On opening Firefox again.. sometimes the tab will try to reload and sometimes Firefox can't restore. I don't allow the tab to reload.

The same goes for when Firefox goes unresponsive when playing the game (Farmville) on Facebook.

I have refreshed Firefox. Everything is up to date. I've searched Firefox support and done what is suggested including disabling hardware acceleration on both Firefox and Flash Player. I don't know what else to do. I've tried everything and nothing has helped.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>

key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Java is up to date.

I tried Safe Mode and watching a show on Netflix seemed to work but then after a few minutes an error box popped up about silverlight. I clicked continue a few times until the box wouldn't go away for more than a second then I clicked stop and Netflix quit playing then Firefox became unresponsive. I right-clicked, closed Firefox, reopened and then came back here to reply.

Just an added bit of information... videos seem to play fine on youtube and hulu. I didn't try Amazon or Xfinity.

What can I do?

OK.. I tried removing Silverlight then installing again. Although Firefox didn't go unresponsive this time, an error box for Silverlight popped up.

Is there any known compatibility issues with Firefox 40.0.3 and Silverlight?

On my next attempt to watch Netflix Firefox went unresponsive again.

Added note that as a last resort I tried IE and everything worked fine.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open the Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Plugins. Make sure the ones you want to use are set to Ask or Allow.

Go to the web page. Once the page is loading, mouse to the address bar and Left click the icon. A window for displaying site information should come up. Select More Information. Now select Permissions. In the menu, Make sure the ones you want to use are set to Ask or Allow.

As for the unresponsive script in farmville, there is a new version of Flash available, please update it and post back if it still happens :-)
