i was on a facebook page, and i had taken a very long time to write a sentimental story i was about to submit, then firefox crashed and i had to restart my browser. luckily, i had just copied the entire story, just in case. but when i re-opened the page, my story was gone, and my option to 'paste' was completely empty. how can i recover my copied tex?

When you "copy" it goes to the Windows Clipboard and Firefox crashing shouldn't have caused that data to be deleted. You should have been able to "paste" that data into Firefox, or any other program - like Notepad or Word.

Sounds like you may have been using the "copy" menu item in Firefox; did you try using { Ctrl + V } from the keyboard to paste what was sitting in the Clipboard?

Tip: Use this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/textarea-cache/ - to keep a copy of what you type in a "textarea" when using Firefox. Saved my "bacon" more than once. Or don't type a lengthy string of text in a "textarea" using Firefox, use text program like Notepad or Word and then copy from there. I used to do that before I stumble across that extension and started using it.

I also tried the {ctrl+V} option. =( the text i was trying to save was actually a message/ story i was submitting onto a FB page as part of a contest. Sadly, I won't be able to qualify in time, which is tremendously disappointing considering I spent over a 20min just typing it into the text box. I have tried every option I know of to no avail, so it seems Firefox has lost my story of overcoming the recent death of my mom. =( I will try the add-on, thank you. Also, no matter what I do I can't get the blue bar, asking if i would like to make Google my default search engine, atop the opening Google homepage to go away. i followed the directions it gave, and have even gone as far as to delete all other search engines from my options list... yet it still prompts me every single time i open Firefox. Any suggestions? between these two issues, i am honestly considering uninstalling Firefox and going back to IE. =(

Sorry that you lost that article that you had so much time typing, but once you "copy" the data is copied to the Windows Clipboard service which Firefox has no control over, and my experience on Windows is that data doesn't get wiped from the Clipboard unless Windows crashes or is closed. It should have been recoverable after Firefox was reopened. Yes, Firefox crashing precipitated your dilemma of that textarea getting wiped - IOW, the textare was empty when Firefox was reopened - that does happen with Firefox crashes on occasion. If Firefox is crashing frequently "we" should address that here in support in a new thread. And that textarea "data loss" from Firefox crashes can be avoided in the future by using the extension that I recommended, because the data is "saved" by that extension keystroke-by-keystroke. I use that extension due to similar problems I had experienced with Firefox in the past when I was going thru a period when Firefox was more prone to crash, due to deteriorating hardware on WinXP.

As far as the blue bar on the Google search page - if it is there when Firefox opens, I guess you set Google.com as your homepage. So I would say that is a bit of a user created problem. There are a number of recent threads around here that explain how that blue bar can be gotten rid of or bypassed, but I don't recall what was recommended as I always use Google thru the Search Bar. You could try using this page -https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl - for Google searches if you don't want to use the Search Bar, the new tab page, or the default home pages for Google searches - bookmark it if you need to.

As far as uninstalling Firefox - there is no problem with having as many web browsers installed at the same time as you want; and even using them at the same time if you wish. Over the years of helping Firefox users I have frequently had IE, Chrome, Opera, & Safari open at the same time as I was using Firefox when a user said "this other browser doesn't look like it does in Firefox". I could compare all 5 major browsers and see the differences for myself. So it's not an "either it works or I go back to IE" situation - you can have both while you learn more about how Firefox works and what features it has.
