Hi,

My url bar is not taking any returns after typing the address. The arrow to the right doesn't work.

I have disabled every addon and still same issue. Reinstalled (replaced) with a fresh download.

Help would be good as Firefox is the browser I use all the time and have for years

Chosen solution

Hi,

I deleted the profile and started again, its working. Sorry profile deleted as just kept saved passwords and bookmarks after export

Regards Andrew

Additional comment (~J99) If you get the issue of the address bar not working again, until this bug is fixed, and that could be several months, the solution is to rename places.sqlite as explained in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite#Rebuild_Places_database.

Further information in my post under here #answer-750708 With steps to take explained in full in Firefox 39 address bar not working /questions/1070999#answer-750702 along with a note about an advanced mthod, that may restore the database including History

We do now have fix that we know works for some people with this or a very similar problem.

We do also have developers looking at the issue. UPDATE 8th July developers have the information now The following request is only applicable if you still have the problem. OR you had the problem and kept a copy of the places.sqlite from when the problem existed.

May I ask have you retained a copy of the file places.sqlite from a profile that did not work ? If so would you be willing to let Mozilla look at that file ?

WARNING There are privacy issues, in that the file contains your bookmarks information and browsing History. The file will only be used by Mozilla developers. It will not be displayed publicly.

If you are willing to provide a copy of this file, if required please contact by email Marco Bonardo

mak AT mozilla.com

I suggest you put in the subject line

places.sqlite; bug 11804i9; (/support.mozilla.org/questions/1070834)

and ask whether the file would be useful still. Thanks for your time and the information you have already provided.

Cheers,

John

THE TEMPORARY FIX Update 8th July The address bar bug, recommended fix, is now to rename the file places sqlite for full details please see Firefox 39 address bar not working /questions/1070999#answer-750702

At least as a workaround that gets Firefox running Create a new additional Firefox profile. See Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

We can give more information and help you get Firefox back to normal, but please, whether you want to try to help Mozilla or not, first of all back up the original profile.

Please post back in this thread to say how you get on and for further assistance.

Thanks for posting back Andrew, and glad your fix worked. I will mark the thread solved with your answer and add a note about this answer.

Developers now have the required information. It has been determined that the simplest fix with least loss of data is to rename the file places.sqlite Rather a none intuitive step to fix an address bar issue !

There is a known issue with code changes in Firefox resulting in this problem, in some cases where there is corruption of the database that holds History and Bookmarks.

If you get the issue of the address bar not working again, until this bug is fixed, and that could be several months, the solution is to rename places.sqlite as explained in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite#Rebuild_Places_database.
