Firefox crashes regularly

more options

After years of trouble-free use I'm now having problems with Firefox. It is crashing regularly, every time I use it, started about a week or so ago. As far as I know, nothing has changed on my laptop. I've tried starting in safe mode, and I've tried refreshing but nothing has so far worked. I'm attaching the latest of a succession of daily crash reports. Any assistance would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Open Firefox Options window (Preferences on Mac or Linux) as follows:
    • In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux.
    • In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  2. In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  3. In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  4. Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

We have been getting more and more crash reports like this. It looks like the culprit is the Trusteer add-on by IBM. If you remove this add-on/software the crashing should stop.

Hi Mark,

Can I thank you for your replies, I had both the hardware acceleration box ticked, and also the Trusteer add-on! I have so far unticked the hardware accelerator option and everything seems to be fine again, I haven't as yet disabled the Trusteer add-on but won't hesitate to do so if I have any further problems.

Thanks again for taking the time, I love Firefox and Thunderbird and dearly wish to carry on using them across all of my devices.

All the best, Tim
