My Mozilla is crashing multiple times every day. It doesn't matter if I have 1 tab or several open.

Chosen solution

Hi rosemarybales,

Let me clarify this.

cor-el is suggesting to disable the pref in about:config. about:config is a built in page which you can access like you would do any regular website. Type about:config into the Address Bar and press Enter. The page will pop-up with a warning saying this will void your warranty. Check-mark the box (if it isn't checked) then click "I'll be careful, I promise!"

Once you reach that page, you can search for the pref cor-el mentioned using the search box on top. The pref is browser.taskbar.lists.enabled so type that into the search field. Once you do that, it'll come up, double click it so it turns bold and shows the value as False.

Restart Firefox. Does it work now?

The option philipp is suggesting is to create a new profile. Simple enough. 1. Open the profile manager (close Firefox first)

  • Hold the Windows key on your keyboard and press the R key while holding the Windows key and your Run commandbox will open.
  • Type (with Firefox closed) firefox.exe -p
  • The Profile Manager will open. Click Create New Profile and go through the prompts.
  • Once done, open Profile Manager again and start Firefox through the newly created profile.

Does that help?

hi Rosemary, could you provide your latest few submitted crash reports? please enter about:crashes into the location bar, copy the latest few report ids from there starting with bp- & paste them here into a forum reply. this will give us a better understanding what may be triggering those crashes.

along with the crashes my computer is also freezing a lot. I can click on different things just fine and then it just stops and won't do anything regardless of what I click on, and then after a while everything I clicked on pops up.

You can try to toggle this pref on the about:config page with a double-click.

  • browser.taskbar.lists.enabled = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar and use its search bar to locate the pref. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

I don't understand what you are saying or how to perform it.

you have quite a few extensions present - which might be a cause. please try creating a clean profile for testing purposes: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

I'm sorry, but I'm confused. When I click on profiles I just get Windows C with one long list

I don't know what half the stuff on that list is

sorry, i don't understand what you're trying to do there yet - which step of the Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles article are you trying out where this is happening?

I started out by saying "my Mozilla is crashing all the time". First I was told to send a crash report, which I did. Then I was told to toggle this pref on the about:config , in which I replied that I did not understand or know how. The next one told me to Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles. That is where you answsered and ask what I was trying to do.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:

If I do any of the solutions in the moses answer or the corel answer will any of these delete my plug-ins and extensions?

more options

Plugins are never removed, but might get disabled. You only lose the extensions if you create and use a new profile or if you run Firefox in Safe Mode (this disables extensions, but doesn't remove them). Disabling hardware acceleration has effect in the profile that you currently use (i.e. it is a profile related setting).

If you have used the Profile Manager to create a new profile then your old profile should still be there and you can use the Profile Manager to switch back to that profile in case the new profile hasn't worked.

It is possible to recover data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

If you have reset (refreshed) Firefox then your profile folder has been moved to the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, but in that case Firefox should have imported some of your personal data automatically.

When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

james, can you use firefox beta and see if the crashes continue: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/beta/

more options

Yes, Philipp, I will give firefox beta a try.

more options

As suggested, I have upgraded to Firefox Beta. I also disabled hardware acceleration, and updated my Intel graphics driver. Firefox Beta hasn't crashed yet, but is still agonizingly slow.
