Why is a % symbol suddenly being automatically added to my links in my Wordpress site when the links are copied in Firefox

About two weeks ago, I started having a problem with my links to videos. The videos are not opening at all, as they have been for the past 6 months. After many days of troubleshooting, including all of the Firefox recommends, and searching support threads, I discovered that when a link is copied in Firefox a percent symbol % is being automatically added to the link's code string. That % symbol is preventing the video from playing, or even appearing on the page.

When I copy the link in Chrome, it works fine, as it has for the last 6 months, and no code is being added. Why is this suddenly happening in Firefox, and how can we stop it? It is killing my business. None of my members can see the 76 video greeting cards.

Seriously,

All this technical data doesn't tell me "why" Firefox adds the % symbol to my links when they are copied. To be more precise, Firefox replaces the ! symbol with the % symbol and that makes the links not work. I need to know how to fix this so the links to the videos do work.

If you copy the link from the location/address bar then a workaround is to place a character like a space or dot at the far left and select the link via Shift and cursor right copy to the clipboard.

You can set the browser.urlbar.trimURLs pref to false on the about:config page to see the http: protocol on the location bar and in the pop-up if you hover a link.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Hi Cor-el, Thanks for the help, however, while this workaround (if I fully understand it) could help me using my Firefox browser, the problem exists for anyone copying the link on my website while using Firefox, not just me.

This strange % for ! problem doesn't exist when using Chrome or Safari. Unfortunately there are a lot of people using Firefox, so I need a fix that will work for everyone.

Thanks again for your thought.

What kind of characters are in the link(s) that Firefox needs to escape them?
