Menus and tool bars are 3 times the height they were. Re-installing doesn't change things nor does return to 'default'

Out of the blue, the tool bars became three times the height. Along with this came drop-down menus with the same issue. After searching for a 'setting' and not finding anything, I uninstalled then re-installed twice without resolution. Reset to 'Default' also failed to restore normality.

The text within the tabs and tool-bars is normal height, as it is in the menus but trying to select from a menu makes the options blank.

Chosen solution

At this point, I wouldn't worry about Crash Reports.

It looks to me like a Windows theme issue or it's related to video drivers, and the Troubleshooting Information you provided says "Try updating your graphics driver to version 182.65 or newer."

That should be your first step.

Create a new profile. Then run it. Does it have the same problems?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles Windows: 32-bit C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p 64-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p Mac: Navigate to /Applications/Utilities. Open the Terminal application. In the Terminal application, enter the following: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p Linux: In Terminal run: firefox –P For users who have one or more builds from mozilla.org this will not work. It would be best to have the full path so if you had placed the untared contents in a folder in /home it would be /home/<username>/foldername/firefox/firefox –P An easy way would be not to do it in a terminal but in say a launcher since you have to point it to the firefox script in Firefox folder you can then add –P on end. You can also have the exact "profilename" after the -P so Firefox will start with that Profile.

I created a new profile twice but neither solved the problem. Am I missing something? I would anticipate an option to set certain parameters in a profile - which I thought might be a text file of some kind - but I never got to see what settings there are in the profile.

I've been using FireFox since probably version 1 and never previously had any problem with it.

Sorry - I meant to thank FredMcD for his suggestion and pointing me to the profile section  :(

Can you provide a screenshot of that problem with your Toolbars and Menus?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.
Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.

And maybe provide a list of your Installed Extensions, that you can Copy from Help > Troubleshooting Information using the "Copy text to clipboard" and then Paste that info into the Post a Reply box in this thread.

Thanks edmeister.

Attached image is just one of my screens to keep it below the 1MB limit and I've added 'Tripple height' to the affected areas so there is no misunderstanding. I've also opened a drop-down menu to show how they are affected as well.

There follows the Extensions report.

Some of your crash reports weren’t sent to the Mozilla Servers.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Thanks fred,

I ran the sfc but got '...did not find any intergity violations' response.

Most of the crash reports went correctly but two of them remain without the 'bp-' leader. They simply do not invoke the 'sending report' dialogue but are still shown in the following list you asked for.

I'm not sure what you are suggesting I do about 'GetPropertyDescriptorById' issue. I see a reference to it in the page pointed to but there doesn't seem to be any information about removal or other action to take.

Thanks edmeister,

Resolved  !! - New video driver installed and all is back to single height.

I did consider that it might be a 'Windows' rather than FireFox problem but since the effect was only present in FF - I had tested IE (spit!) but that was 'normal' and no other program showed the effect so I discounted it. Very pleased to know that you have more experience and are prepared to offer support.

Some crash reports about about issues with the Shockwave Flash plugin.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
