First, Download Files. This way, it there is a problem, you don't have to download it again. You can always delete it later.

Are you the administrator for your system? With some high level programs, the computer only lets someone with administrator privilege to install such programs. Is this a work or home computer?

I am the administrator for the computer. The computer is a home computer.

If it is asking for a password then there is a user account that requires a password. I've seen it before where you don't actually need to put in a password?

If you log off your computer, do you have to type a password to log back in?

Check your computers profile for you and make sure you are an the administrator

When I got to the screen that was giving me problems I typed in all the passwords that I knew in my head, I even tried entering with no password. I do not normally have a password for my account. However, I did put a password on my account and logged back in and tried again with the password I had just created and it still didn't work.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• Microsoft Safety Scanner
• MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
• TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
• Hitman Pro
• ESET Online Scanner

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

FredMcD, I have scanned my computer today and it came out clean. I will try the Microsoft Safety Scanner and see if it picks anything up.

I have tried Microsoft Safety Scanner and my computer came out CLEAN! I am happy and sad all at the same time.

Run several or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Okay, I have run every single program you sent and here are the results:

• Microsoft Safety Scanner = Clean
• MalewareBytes' Anti-Maleware = Some Maleware found and cleaned
• TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility = Clean
• Hitman Pro = Theats found and cleaned
• ESET Online Scanner = Theats found and cleaned

After I finished everything and had cleaned everything I tried to download again. The same problem still exists. Cannot download Firefox.

So I scanned everything again and these are the results.

• Microsoft Safety Scanner = Clean
• MalewareBytes' Anti-Maleware = Some Maleware found and cleaned
• TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility = Clean
• Hitman Pro = Clean
• ESET Online Scanner = Clean

I have run MalewareBytes about 4 or 5 times and it keeps on saying that 10 "Pups" (maleware I suppose) keep on showing up. Then all the sudden Windows says that MalewareBytes has stopped working. I tried to download Firefox again and the same "Run as" message keeps showing up. The first time I ran MalewareBytes it said that there were alot of "Pups". Now it just says there are 10 and wont clean. I have attached a copy of the message that keeps popping up and wont let me download Firefox. I don't have any other problems downloading any other programs. Just Firefox.

At this point, I am at a loss. I sent a message for more help on this.

Did you download the full Firefox installer and not the small stub installer?

cor-el I have tried downloading the full version (but just to make sure, I downloaded the link you gave and still the same message pops up and wont let me download). I have seen this problem in other Mozilla forums but it pertained only to updating Firefox and not to downloading Firefox. Since the problem pertained to updating the solution was to uninstall the old Firefox and install the new Firefox from scratch. That seemed to work, but since as I don't have Firefox on my user account this solution would not apply to me.

A possibility is to open the Mozilla FTP website in Windows Explorer and download the Firefox set up file that way.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that allows to install Firefox.

10,000 points goes to... COR-EL!!!!! I have SUCCESSFULLY downloaded Firefox to my computer. I tried all of your suggestions to no avail until I came to the last one. When I went into safety mode I was able to download Firefox without have the message pop up and stop me. This being said, I am curious as to why my computer is doing this in the first place. Is it maleware? I have yet to get the Malewarebytes program going successfully so I guess I will try to fix that problem but for now, thanks everyone who helped me solve this problem.

When you have time, restart the computer in safe mode with network. Then try the mal-ware scans.
