Hi,
I'm trying to install Thunderbird on a new Windows 11 laptop, I'm reluctant to 'fiddle' with the installation on this Windows 10 one for fear of loosing my emails.
I've tried letting Thunderbird set all the settings from just my email address and password but that didn't work. So I tried doing the settings myself, still without success. Thunderbird says it's either the settings or password which is wrong, I'm certain that the email address and password are correct and I've 'taken the plunge' and taken a look at the installed version on this laptop and copied everything. Thunderbird still can't open my account.
Where do I go from here ?
George

What do you mean 'can't open my account'?
I mean that Thunderbird can't log in to my email account.
Please send a screenshot of the error message(s) you are getting.
While we wait to see what TB is saying, you may want to check that all your email addresses are the same i these three areas:
1 - Hamburger (top right)/Account Settings - click on the name of the account through which you are sending the email. On the right is the return email address called 'Email Address' unless you have put another email address in 'Reply-to Address'.
2 - Hamburger (top right)/Account Settings/Outgoing Server (SMTP). Highlight the server through which you are sending the email and the User Name is displayed at the bottom. It can be changed using the 'Edit' button.
3 - Hamburger (top right)/Account Settings - click on the 'Server Settings' under the account through which you are sending the email. The email address is in the 'User Name' field.
