Additional information:

1) The 32 bit version of Firefox 58.0.1 has the same bookmark tag not working issue.

2) In the "Show All Bookmarks" window deleting a tag does not make it disappear. However, closing the "Show All Bookmark" window, then reopening "Show All Bookmarks" proves the deleted tag was, in fact, deleted (it is not present in the tag list).

Title: Bookmark tags problems, error, bugs?

I had tried to fix the following problems 2 to 3 times by using "Refresh", "Safe Mode" and Reinstall Firefox. No use, still facing the same problems. It seems like a bug or error to me.

3 problems as following... 1st) (see screenshot 66) Bookmark tags words suggestion not shown when typing. 2nd) (see screenshot 68) Can't delete Tags. After reopening the window, the tags was, in fact, still there. 3rd) (see screenshot 65) No tags suggestion shown in the box inside library's window.

Hi "Anthony" ... Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it! Your screenshots are almost exactly the missing tag symptoms I saw.

I did fix my tags issue last week; I should have posted an update before now.

The short story is I had to do a full Firefox re-install then tags worked again, including tags created before the problem started. I think the root cause of the failure is after multiple Firefox updates some conflict occurs that stops tags from working.

The one step I forgot was backing up my bookmarks (this caused a high heart rate), but syncing saved me. I hope you are syncing to either a copy of Firefox on another computer or to a mobile Firefox. Syncing also retains what extensions you want after a reinstall.

Here is what I suggest. Note that once started, you are committed to finishing this process. If tags don't come back you will have to manually restore them ...

1) Make sure your bookmarks are sync'd. 2) Backup your bookmarks to a .json file. You may wish to backup to an HTML file too as an added assurance. 3) Uninstall Firefox 4) Use your preferred uninstaller to make sure all traces of Firefox are gone. 5) Use your preferred Registry cleaner to be sure all traces of Firefox are gone there too.

    • Reboot optional, but cannot hurt ***

6) Reinstall Firefox 7) Preferred: Sync bookmarks (this was just plain magic as bookmarks and extensions reappeared during the sync). Alternate: Restore bookmarks from the .json backup (you'll have to add your extensions again).

If your bookmark tags don't come back you'll have to either add the tags again or blow away all the bookmarks, open the HTML file, and re-bookmark each link.

I'll be interested to know if this worked for you.

Thanks silentsky126, is good to hear from you. I did sync my bookmarks and backup to .json and html before trying to fix the problem. Thank you for your reminder.

I haven't try any 3rd party uninstaller. I just use the window standard one. Do you have any uninstaller programs and Registry cleaner recommend to us? I did google some, but still want to hear from you.

I have try two Registry cleaners so far... 1) CCleaner 2) Auslogics

the 1st cleaner I tries was the Registry cleaner by CCleaner. Screenshot (69, 78)

Steps: delete Firefox > restart computer > run CCleaner > scan > delete FireFox related files (see 69) > restart computer > scan one more time, no more Firefox related files, from where I see > install FireFox > Tags problems still exist.

2nd try use Auslogics Screenshot (70-74, 76-78) Steps: delete Firefox > restart computer > run Auslogics > scan "Firefox" (71) > delete all FireFox related files (see 70, 72) > scan "Mozilla" > delete all Mozilla related files (see 76) > install Firefox > Tags problems still exist.

I don't want to jump to a step where I have to clean/fix/delete any unknown registry which recommended by the software, before posting any results on this forums and get some recommendation from you guys.

Any ideas?

Can somebody shed light on this topic?

This is how I fix the problem: I use Window 10. reinstall FireFox (Version 60.0.2 (64-bit); bookmark is sync and backup. Then I did the following. 1.) Uninstall FireFox using Window 10 "Apps & features". 2) Then delete "Profile folder" (Where to find it? search this %APPDATA% A Windows Explorer window will appear. In this window, choose Mozilla → Firefox → Profiles. But I delete the top folder "Mozilla", just to be safe). For me this is the key step to make the FireFox bookmark work normal again. 3) To make sure is clean I run a Registry cleaner. ( But I think this step is optional) 4) Then I restart the computer. 5) Install the Firefox. It install as new not recognize as "reinstall" status. 6) before login for bookmark sync. I open up "Show All Bookmarks", and as you expected all bookmarks are gone and your profile is gone. 7) Now login to your account. Synchronizing should happen soon. It took some time to sync, for me it took around 15-20min. 8) Everything is fine now. As you can see photo below.
