One of the reasons I wanted to move away from Outlook was that it was unable to tell the difference between an email address, a name, and the combination of both. Now it seems I may have stumbled upon exactly the same problem in Thunderbird.

I try to use Filters to distinguish difference types of email (for the record, I'm setting up a heap of Tags with different colours, and letting auto-filters assign appropriate Tags -- poor-man's colour highlighting).

I had a Filter that applied to messages with the "From" field equal to "mailer@company.com" (not their real name).

However, they changed their mail-out address to "noreply@company.com", so I had to change the filter. Rather than risking missing important emails again (I missed a few), I tried changing the filter to the "From" field *contains* "@company.com" -- and now the filter fails to hit *any* of their mail, when run.

I suspect Thunderbird is only attempting to match the "name" in the "From" field, rather than both "name" and "email address", or "email address" alone. In this case, the full "From" field is "Parent Company <noreply@company.com>".

First question is, is there something else I could try?

Second question is, why can't I specify which part of the "To", "From", "Cc" and "Bcc" fields are searched?!

Seriously, this is a major design flaw (that has been part of Outlook forever). It can be **really** important to distinguish email addresses from Contact Names, and from names accompanying email addresses. That's especially true in a case like mine where I'm working with partial matches. It's not hard to formulate a scenario where an attempt to match just a name also started matching spurious email addresses -- and especially vice versa!

I am trying to download all of the emails on my ISP's server to my hard drive using a recently downloaded Mac version of Thunderbird. I went to Offline-download/Sync Now and it appears to download but I can't find the file on my hard drive. There is no Thunderbird folder in the library, so no Profile folder where the files are supposed to live. Help please.

I was experiencing troubles with color changing when writing a mail in the composer. I could not get a new color being applied even if I selected one different from black in the toolbar. I looked for a tip on other forums but nothing was satisfying in my case... Just to give the tip for others that could meet some similar situation, maybe you will have to check for colors parameters in "general settings" instead of looking for a solution with "composer settings". The issue was described on this forum for windows users, and the solution was found here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1100393#question-reply Tools - Options - Display - Formatting - Default Font - Colors - Override the colors specified by content was "always" and I changed it to "never"

but there was no evidence that the problem could be solved for MacOS users regarding the last posts...

So here it is: I am using French version of Thunderbird so if I give some inaccurate translation for menu titles, I am sorry for this. 1. Go to Thunderbirds / Preferences / General 2. Scroll down till "Languages and appearance" 3. Click the "Colors" button 4. Uncheck "Use system colors" 5. Quit and relaunch Thunderbird

You should now be able to select whatever color you want in the mail composer ! And modify selected text or entire text.

Hope it will help.

NB: What is strange about these settings is that it should apply to the mail visualizer only, not to the mail composer... but it works ... I am not a thunderbird killer... so... that's it !

There does not appear to be any visual or other indicator of when IMAP has fully synced, either on an account or folder basis. I have an IMAP Account with 25+GB of mail across several hundred folders and subfolders. If I check the box "Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer" (as well as the "Synchronize all messages locally regardless of age", it can take many many days (as the server eventually throttles my bandwidth for a period of time). Naturally, I get all the headers pretty quickly, and can see that visually in the folder pane. But then I have to open Activity Manager and keep an eye on what it's doing. But there's really no way of knowing when it's done synchronizing for the account, or at a folder level (e.g. I can see the number of emails in a folder and the size of the folder in the folderpane, but all I can assume is that those are headers that were downloaded... I don't know if the actual message bodies have been downloaded unless I happen to see it in the activity manager.) Is there a way to get a visual on this, or a status somewhere?

I have an e-mail signature that I use on a lot of my e-mails. I made this in HTML and ported it over from Microsoft Outlook. However whenever I make a new e-mail the images are not loaded properly, and I have to relocate them. How can I fix this?

Hello.

I have tried everything to try to move my profile to an external drive (a network attached drive in this case, synology).

Every time I follow the guides (using various methods), when I reboot into thunderbird I get an empty (and slightly weird looking) interface, which crashes upon any input.

I have very limited storage in my Mac mini, and I want to move my thunderbolt storage container over to my NAS. This is a synology DS 1618+’attached via 10gbe.

Any further ideas?

Why its not possible for over 10 years now to filter my mails by sender domain? (optionally respecting subdomains) ?? Neither by Thunderbird nor any other mail tool.

Do someone know any tool, addon, setting to manage my mails by sender-domain ?? please!!! Its not an option to build thus filters manually! There are too many domains meanwhile.

It seems too easy: on mail receive -> move mail to folder named by received mail domain.

Or can anyone explain to me, why its impossible?

I am a new Thunderbird user & I am having multiple problems figuring things out. Two very basic Q's, pls: 1) I somehow added a search field in the bottom toolbar... now, I can't undo it. How do I remove the search field in the toolbar? 2) I have also tried & tried to make the font larger in my inbox. There are different settings that seem to purport to adjust font sizes, but I can't get any to work.

I'm sure that there are existing threads that have long since answered these Q's. Hopefully, someone can direct me to those discussions. Thx. John

I am unable to revert to the previous version, and I am not on any stupid email,spam, RSS feeds that tell me useless stuff. I read through the 'whats new' and I understand the english words, but the rest is gobbledygook as I am not a programmer or developer. FYI I have Autism, and sudden changes to layouts, upset me alot. If you are offended by my complaining here, please let me know how to contact you, and I will, and you can observe my rage! Classic example of companies not giving two **** about people with mental/medical issues. Only what Mozzila or MS thinks is good enough

Since the last Thunderbird update, I am CONSTANTLY getting this popup: The messages you have deleted can be purged from disk. This operation will save about 327 MB of disk space. Select the option below to let Thunderbird do this automatically without asking you. PLEASE, I don't EVER want to see this popup message again. I have my Trash totally under control and this thing is driving me crazy!

Hi, I've used Thunderbird for many years.

For almost a year the font is so small I have to squint to read it. I cannot enlarge the font. I cannot zoom the page. I cannot make any change to the font size. I searched for answers. I tried the solution that requires me to search the directory and change all fonts by the 1.5 value, which did work for a day. It reset to the usual 8pt font.

Today I opened Microsoft's Outlook for the first time in many years. It is always included with the Office programs. I prefered Thunderbird because it's familiar. I changed the Outlook font size from the 8 point font it came with to 14 point, which makes is so easy to read.

I have determined it might be easier to set up and migrate to Microsoft Office than continue to search and beg and keep experimenting with Thunderbird.

After downloading multiple dictionaries for Thunderbird's spellchecker I can only select one of them to be used at any given time. This, however, makes using multiple languages in one and the same email a bit annoying and/or cumberome as text of whichever language is not actively spellchecked at the moment will be interpreted as a selection of typos and using the spellchecking window becomes quite futile too for the very same reason. Is there any way to spellcheck for multiple languages at the same time?

On incoming TB emails, all fonts/text are too tiny to read. I have to click on reply to bring up another view of the original text email to see the fonts/text in a larger display to be able to read. I did not have this prob. b4 I upgraded to Win10pro from win7, etc. TB is 78.7.1. This is true in all reg. type emails & in the web based newsletters I receive. I have even typed a letter to myself using med. size and letter arrives with the tiny, almost unreadable tiny font.

This is important as yesterday my husband received an email supposedly from one of his friends but it was his name using unknown email address. I have a Synology CalDav server setup for Calendar and Tasks. I was able to get the Calendar working, but the Tasks Lists I created did not come with it.
