We have been using Thunderbird with a Cox email account. Cox has just transferred all its customers to Yahoo. I want to use Thunderbird with Yahoo. How do I set that up?

Cox has tranferred my email accounts to Yahoo. I need to know how to connect back to Thunderbird. Had a discussion on your FB group with ANJE YELF.. She said to leave a message here and she would get back to me on how to do that. I have imap.

Cox Communications recently discontinued its e-mail services but provided a simple, direct transfer path to Yahoo Mail. The transfer retained the '@cox.net' referent in the e-mail address -- e.g., 'myusername@cox.net' -- to make the transition to Yahoo Mail seamless for all correspondence. The new Yahoo Mail username also now includes the '@cox.net' referent -- e.g., the former 'myusername' under Cox is now 'myusername@cox.net' under Yahoo. The transfer was successful, and e-mail send & receive functions for all of my old Cox accounts now work on the Yahoo Mail servers -- but ONLY in Yahoo's webmail.

in order to get Thunderbird to recognize my existing accounts under the new Yahoo regime, I went to 'Set Up Another Account > Email' and entered the required information, as illustrated in the attached screenshots. (See attachments 01 & 02.) The Set Up procedure initially found the old Cox server settings, apparently from Mozilla's archived data for the account. I Then performed a manual configuration, and, as indicated in the attached screenshots, the Set Up procedure also successfully found the new Yahoo Mail servers. Success, right?

Wrong! When I restarted Thunderbird, the new Yahoo Mail server settings were in place, but the username had not been updated -- it lacked the '@cox.net' suffix. After manually amending the username and again restarting, the new server settings and amended username were in place, but connection to the Yahoo servers failed repeatedly. (See attachment 03.) A second round of the 'Set Up Another Account > Email' procedure revealed that the archival Mozilla data had not been updated -- it still pointed to the old cox.net settings -- and a second manual configuration led to the same results as the first: Thunderbird failed to connect to my account on the Yahoo Mail servers.

I then looked for a way to completely remove the existing account from Thunderbird, and then to create a new account from scratch for the existing account on Yahoo Mail. I consulted Thunderbird online support advice [ref. 'Close My Account - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1395523 ]:

"If you created a mail account in Thunderbird for a particular email address to download emails from server then you can easily remove it ( Menu icon > Account Settings -- Select name of account in Left Pane -- Click on 'Account Actions' -- Select :'Remove Account'. -- Restart Thunderbird. ),"

However, I could find no 'Remove Account' selection anywhere in the version of Thunderbird that I am using (ver. 115.9.0 - 64-bit)!

Please explain what I must do:

   1. to make an existing Thunderbird account originally set up for an old '@cox.net' address hosted on Cox servers now connect to a new '@cox.net' address hosted on Yahoo Mail servers; 

or, alternatively,

   2. to remove all traces of an existing Thunderbird account originally set up for an old '@cox.net' address once hosted on Cox servers, and then to set up a new Thunderbird account for the same '@cox.net' address now hosted on Yahoo Mail servers.

I have a friend who has been using the Outlook email client with her Gmail account. She's looking into moving to Thunderbird. Is it just a matter of... - making sure that IMAP is enabled in her Gmail account - installing Thunderbird - adding the Gmail account and credentials to Thunderbird

She's got lots of folders so is concerned that they won't be lost in the process.

When installing 115, I get to a page that says "Just one more step! Finish installing, and start enjoying Thunderbird." But there is no "Finish" or similar button. What do I do?

I just downloaded the update (115.4.1), which has caused all kinds of problems. I can no longer automatically connect with my server, the typefaces have changed in my inbox, there are no longer 'get messages', 'reply', 'forward', 'write' buttons, etc. Can I simply remove this update? Thanks.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my email. It comes to me through my website Bradfraser.net, and is hosted by Viux. Apparently Viux went out of business a while ago and didn't tell anyone. My email stopped arriving at bradfraser@bradfraser.net two weeks ago and all attempts to rectify this have been stymied by my not having my dashboard info for the site, and I am unable to get it from Viux. (Which seems to have a bot answering questions.) Is there any way you can help me access this email account and get it running again? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have migrated sackvilleandlane@westnet.com.au from Westnet to The Messaging Company, they tell me it is successful, but I cannot get emails. They now tell me it is my provider. Can you please fix it for me? With thanks Heather

When I transferred my icloud email account to TB only a few of the 15 folders were transferred. Troubleshooting first with Apple, I was told to delete the account and re-create it. I did but that did not restore to lost folders. How can I get the rest of my folders to transfer?

How do I downgrade to an older version of Thunderbird on Rocky Linux (RHEL clone)?

For my last update (yum update -y) I got Thunderbird 115 which has lots of problems.

If I try “yum downgrade thunderbird”, I get the error: Last metadata expiration check: 3:43:41 ago on Tue 14 Nov 2023 04:57:52 PM EST. Package thunderbird of lowest version already installed, cannot downgrade it. Dependencies resolve

I downloaded: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/102.9.1/linux-x86_64/en-US/thunderbird-102.9.1.tar.bz2 but when I unzip and click the thunderbird icon, Thunderbird doesn’t pick up my Thunderbird profile. I saw some windows downgrade tutorial that said to delete compatibility.ini from profile but when I deleted compatibility.ini Thunderbird still doesn’t pick my profile.

When moving email servers from Webmail to Zoho, I logged in to all the emails I wanted to backup/copy on my machine and made a copy of the IMAP folder. Fast forward, I want to restore/read from these legacy emails locally on Thunderbird on a different installation, and I'm finding it difficult.

I copied the folders back into the IMAP folder of the new machine but nothing happened.

I would appreciate help with this restoration.

I use Thunderbird for my work email. Since early October, I have had difficulty accessing the internet using Thunderbird. I can access my work email account through the web, but that is a bit clunky. I have no problem accessing the internet via Firefox, and I can access my work email via Thunderbird if I use my phone as a personal hotspot. Is there a setting on Thunderbird I need to change, or is my problem more with my internet provider (Quantum Fiber)?

all of the sudden all messages are downloaded and immediately disappear. Also all folders appear empty. I cannot access anything I have saved, neither can I keep received messages in the mailbox.

My husband has Thunderbird for his emails. I am trying to set up Thunderbird for my emails. I am not able to get past the point where you must select IMAP or POP3. The hard drive on my PC running Windows 10 crashed and I have a new one running Windows 11. I used Thunderbird on the old PC and am trying to set up Thunderbird on the new PC. My email account is with AOL. When setting up Thunderbird on the new PC, it asks for the password. I am trying to use the AOL password but it does not work. The same password works on other devices. I have no access to the data on the old hard drive. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
