Just bought a new laptop. Copied the profile folder to a USB for safety. Downloaded TB 68.2.2 is same as on the old laptop, so expected everything to be the same when opening TB. Unfortunately, local folders with old mail files did not open. Copied and pasted the saved profile to the TB on the new laptop. No success, local folders still not opening though the files I want are defintely there in a folder in the profile. I'm a user and not familiar with the TB program. Can anyone provide help? Thank you in anticipation. John

Hi everyone, I'm having the same issue as others on here, and have tried everything listed in several threads, as well as a few other things I've read online. But when TB starts it is still not showing me all my old (migrated from mac) stuff. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure it out as my wife works from home and needs access to her emails on the computer, where all her invoices etc are stored. Please help before I get bumped off and buried under the patio...

Hello Could someone please advise/reassure me on moving my Thunderbird 68.2.1 installation from Mac 10.11 to Windows 10? I have watched this video https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer and identified my profile folder on the Mac, which is at username > Library > Thunderbird > Profiles > xxxxxxx.default - I assume that's the one. Firstly the video, which is more about moving between PCs, talks about cloud storage and external drives, but presumably I can just copy the 35 gig folder across my network to somewhere a new installation of Thunderbird will find and use it? This would probably make more sense for me given its size and the two systems. The video suggests I would copy the profile folder within the "Roaming" folder on the PC which would presumably be created when I install TB, I think replacing a default installation Profile folder - is that all I need to do? Or have I misunderstood? I installed a couple of extensions on TB on the Mac - Enigmail and Send Later (although under Troubleshooting it lists various others I didn't know about like dictionaries etc); what happens about these? Thank you so much for any pointers!

In the process of moving from W7 to Linux Mint, my Thunderbird Profile etc. is on a NTFS partition of my second (hard) drive. Win7 and Mint have partitions on my first (SSD) drive. On W7 Thunderbird runs fine, with Master Password in use. When I start Mint and mount the NTFS partition, Thunderbird starts fine - the ini file in .thunderbird points to the NTFS profile, the latest mails are there and can be read, but attempts to create a master password result in the message "Password Change failed - unable to change Master Password". I've tried renaming files such as key4.db and logins.json but no useful effect was to be seen.

Hello! Migrating to Thunderbird 68.2.2 and I'm having a problem importing local messages on my MacBook Pro running 10.15.1. Tools > Import > Mail > Apple Mail leads to a message saying "Mail was successful imported from Apple Mail. No mailboxes were found to import." Mail, however, does have two local folders of mail showing.
I tried to install the ImportExportTools NG 4.0.4 add-on to see if that would help, but selecting Add to Thunderbird doesn't seem to do anything.
Any assistance importing my messages would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Built new Win 10 PC. Downloaded and installed T'Bird, it would not pick up my numerous folders on base ATT/Yahoo mail. Tried all day to move my profile from the old C: drive, now I have really screwed up something in trying to copy in the last used profile from my Win 7 PC drive.
Uninstalled and downloaded again, T'Bird will not load, says "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It must be missing or inaccessible." There are 2 profiles in C:\Users>"myname">AppData>Roaming>Thunderbird>Profiles
How do I fix this, I cannot stand Yahoo mail!
Thanks.

Hello I have using Thunderbird to manage 5 email accounts of which one is from gmail. yesterday, I created a second gmail account, that I am trying to add to Thunderbird. I have the correct gmail config setup for the new account using OAUTH2. I have turned on the Less secure App pref in Gmail. But when thunderbird offers to login to this account, I eventually get to the accept Thunderbird as app gmail page and accept, the connection fails. I do not have this issue with the first gmail account. If I understand correctly, OAUTH2 used a token system to avoid passwords. Is it possible that trying to have 2 OAUTH2 gmail accounts is causing a conflict? Any ideas are most welcome

Dear Support, I have the backup of old emails in Outlook Express .dbx files. To import them in Thunderbird I've followed the advice of this site http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_from_Outlook_Express I have installed on Windows10 an oldest version of Thunderbird (Version 17.09) and after that I followed the instructions I have imported the old .dbx emails files and later through an IMAP account I copied them into the mail server SUCCESSFULLY! The problem now is with older .sdb files even these of Outlook... I've tried: - in the same way than .dbx; - installing ImportExportTools extension; - with a tool in the site https://www.systoolsgroup.com/thunderbird-importer/ and with this tool the version demo only 25 emails per folder. Then I ASK YOUR HELP to import these .dbx emails files. Thank you and regards.

I raised this issue earlier and Agnes responded. However, the response did not solve my problem, which I do not blame anyone for. I would like to provide some more information which might contribute to a solution: Earlier this year as the result of an IMAP server problem, I lost some mail that should have been saved in local folders but weren't. I have used TB for many years but due to my unfamiliarity with directories and file structures, I subsequently relied on the services of an online IT expert to help retrieving the mail from a previously saved profile. Somehow he copied and pasted the folders and data into the directory Mail/Local Folder/Archive.sbd/TEMP.sbd. Archive and TEMP folders both contain the same .msf folders, which is a bit weird! However, while whatever he did works on the "old" laptop, it doesn't work on the new. I can see the TEMP folder and data in the profile copied to the new TB installation, and the conundrum now is to figure out how to open it in TB on the new laptop? I tried to upload a screenshot of the relevant directory and .msf files, unfortunately the process is very slow, so I have abandoned the idea for now. Can anyone else offer some guidance?
Thanks in anticipation, John

This has me stumped. My Thunderbird profile had filled up my primary disk so I am trying to move it to my secondary data drive. I've tried every trick that I've found, but have concluded that most advice is too Windows-centric for my situation.
My original profile is on my primary disk at /barry/.thunderbird/luw2i6y9.default/
I copied the entire .thunderbird folder over to my DOCUMENTS folder on a second drive at: /barry/DOCUMENTS/.thunderbird/luw2i6y9.default/ (or: /dev/sdb1/DOCUMENTS/.thunderbird/luw2i6y9.default/)
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make Thunderbird open the profile in that location. Deleting the one in the original location didn't work, changing profiles.ini didn't work, and following steps using thunderbird -ProfileManager didn't work.
I have read, and re-read all of the suggested "help" pages with no success.
What am I missing??
Mint Linux 19.1 Cinnamon 64 bit. All updated. My primary root drive is a 120 gig SSD at /dev/sda1 My second drive is a 2TB spinning disk with has 3 partitions for: DOCUMENTS at /dev/sdb1 MUSIC at/dev/sdb2 PICTURES at/dev/sdb3

Running Thunderbird 68.1.1 on a new Windows 10 build and it won't automatically check email. I have checked and unchecked and rechecked the "check for new messages" boxes in Account Settings > Server Settings to no avail. Also, its inability to check emails on startup means that it won't open in my inbox, I have to manually click to there every time. I have also tried installing the "Manually Sort Folders" add-on but that doesn't seem to be working either (no new item has appeared in tools menu and there seems to be no other way to interact with it)

I did a backup of the Profile folder which contained 3 profiles. On the new pc I installed TB and followed the instruction about using profile manager. After struggling with this for hours, I used logic and simply replaced the content of the profile folders with the profile folders from the old pc. But I dont get the original hierarchy of accounts and folders in TB (only one account) and only the latest messages from one of the accounts. The instructions I have been able to find do not solve this problem. I managed to do the right thing by accident some days ago (and then I had to do a reinstall of OS) but I cant replicate. Attached are the names of the profile folders. (no. 1 is empty, no.2 is 102 Mb, no.3 is 2,21 GB)
