About a year ago, I tried switching from Chrome to use Firefox as my primary browser. I love many of the built in privacy features and Facebook Container, etc. But as I've been using Firefox, I've discovered sometimes things just stop working with no indication or errors explaining why.

Maybe SOLVED: I finished typing out this whole post and discovered the uBlock Origin extension is probably what has been causing all of this.

First I remember encountering oddities was with Gmail. My email was up, but refused to load messages. It seemed to think it couldn't connect to the server or something and just kept retrying ever 5 minutes. I thought my internet was out, but then discovered other sites worked, and Gmail worked fine in Chrome. Since then I've encountered numerous times where sites just don't work or don't respond in Firefox, and I have no idea why. Sometimes restarting the browser helps, but sometimes I close out of Firefox and can't launch it again because the system says it's still running.

Many times the only fix is to just use a different browser.

Just yesterday I ran into issues navigating FAFSA or Federal Student Aid (FSA) on https://studentaid.gov The site loads up and logging in to complete the FSA application works, but I can't click on any of the links in the dropdown menus across the top and those same links down at the bottom of the page don't work either. They just don't respond. If I open the site in Chrome, they work fine. The only button along the top that works in Firefox is the FSA Title that returns to the home page. The links down in the middle of the page seem to work as well, but the top and bottom navigation just don't respond. Well, they don't respond to left clicks. Hovering the mouse shoes the URL they point to, and I can right click on them. I just tried testing right clicking and using "Copy Link" to copy and paste the address and Firefox goes to the pages directly just fine. This one for example: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types But even on that page the links in the dropdown menus up top and the site navigation at the bottom still don't work.

While searching for help just now, I discovered Breakages due to Tracking Protection: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/report-breakage-due-blocking So I tried that, but that didn't fix the site.

Again, this isn't the only site I've encountered this issue, it happens all the time. Today when I encountered issues in my college's online bookstore I finally came to the conclusion that this happens often enough that I can't use Firefox as my default browser. The thought of having to abandon Firefox is extremely upsetting to me, so I'm reaching out to see if we can fix it before I have to swap back to Chrome.

Attached is a screenshot of my college online bookstore. After logging in, I should be able to search for my course materials through a series of filter selections based on the term, program, and course ID. But no matter how vigorously I click on the summer or fall term options, they just don't register that I'm clicking or selecting them.

What information can I provide to help you test this? I've also included screen shots of my Extensions... and that led to the discovery that uBlock Origin might be the culprit for all of this. ugh... Well, I guess I'll upload in case this helps anyone else.

Thank you.

Hello, I am at a loss to trying to fix a problem after extensive troubleshooting. When I am on Facebook for about five minutes, Firefox stops loading most images. This only occurs with Firefox, not Safari or Chrome. And it only occurs with Facebook and Instagram, which is owned and run by Facebook. I have to restart Firefox to get images back and then after five minutes or so, it happens again every time. Can anyone help? This is driving me crazy!

Thank you

Using desktop, Windows 10, and Firefox browser. Having having a variety of issues that come and go when using Facebook. Some of the problems: photos in Facebook feed not showing or only a couple (sometimes was okay), Facebook Messenger sometimes was blank, got so I had to sign in every time I left Facebook and went back to it, sometimes when I would try to type a comment or type in Facebook search box it would not let me type, in a Facebook photo album it only showed photos on one side and then other times it would not show photos. I cleared the cache while still in Facebook and also when signed out. I've used F5 numerous times. I tried making the cache larger. Still had issues. I tried a different browser and did not have those problems. Problems are not all constant. I finally ended up uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, which so far has helped with some of the problems (at least when I tried it), but not all. I tried to type a comment now and it would not allow me to.

Hi everybody! Until I used Windows 7 Ultimate I had no problem using Firefox on my PC. I've been forced to use Windows 10 and I've apdated both my desktop and my Laptop at the same time (one hour difference) - both run almost exactly the same programs with the exactly same structure (name of software, names of files and/or directories, cookies, extensions etc etc). My Laptop (HP EliteBook) has no problem whatsoever, while on the desktop firefox keeps crashing whenever I sitch on an external HD, or I start a program, or often when I play chess. It crashes also when I'm watching an You Tube clip, and I change clip.... The only time that Firefox doesn't crash is when it is alone, no programs are running in the background, and I explore the internet using the same window, and not opening any links in a new window. I have an idea of what may be the cause but I'm looking for someone who has my same issues in order to check causes. I must admit that I'm fed up, and I'm seriuosly considering to switch to chrome after having used Firefox since it was born.... Thank you, Marko

Whenever I open a new page in firefox it automatically loads a page from the recent history in the new window. This is partly annoying because there is a delay waiting for it to load a page you don't want, but is also quite a big problem when it loads a page from the history that was a pop-up with a reduced size, and sometimes with settings that prevent you from changing the page address.

I don't know why it is doing this but it is unusable behaviour. I've tried restarting the computer (and firefox) but it is still doing it. This is version 92.0 for ubuntu.

Have been experiencing frequent "Gah" tab closures and unexpected Firefox shutdowns lately which require "Restore Now" action. Am running latest version of Firefox on Win10 desktop which is updated religiously. Have run Task Manager which indicates no activity higher than a Medium rating. Interestingly, while I experienced a couple of tab closures this morning, they are predominately later in the day and on occasion I need to reboot the system to get Firefox operating. Hopefully there is a relatively simple fix for this issue. Thanks.

Hello there!

I noticed that pip play mode in Firefox is different to other browsers. In other browsers, once the pip window is opened, it remains open until user explicitly closes it. User is able to navigate away from the page containing the video and it will still remain open. In Firefox, once user navigates away from the video source, the pip window will close.

I'm working on a website which will include some tutorial windows on the home page. It would be useful for the user to be able to open the pip window and then navigate around the site to try out features described in the tutorial video. This is possible with other browsers, unfortunately on Firefox, once the user navigates away (even knowing that it's a SPA) and the video element is removed from the DOM, the browser will not keep the video stream open anymore.

Are there any plans to change this behaviour to match other browsers? Maybe there's an extra attribute that I could add to the video tag to preserve the pip window between navigation events? Maybe there's a temp hack (i.e. keeping the video tag in the DOM but hidden - for SPAs) or will I need to develop a custom media player to achieve this?

Hi,

I'm Windows user and Firefox stopped loading web pages one day. I tried to reinstall including %APPDATA% deletion but nothing helped. I also deleted the Mozilla directory in Program Files. No matter if I use default or no proxy.

I also tried to delete some Firefox items in Register with no success. I cannot disable the Windows Antivirus since it's a company laptop. Chrome and Edge work just fine.

Can you pls advise what could cause the issue?

Thank you.

Using Firefox browser version 92.0 on new Dell Inspiron 5515. While using Yahoo email, frequently receive error message bordered in red reading "No Internet Connection." Internet is working fine for every other website. Tried Yahoo email using Microsoft Edge and this message is never received.

Also, when viewing news articles with photos, the photos often never appear. Occasionally, if I wait long enough the photos eventually surface. And once again, these same photos display almost instantly using Microsoft Edge.

I'm using Windows 8.1. I've been having an issue with Firefox, version 90 and up. On some sites all the text content is missing. On all sites I cannot login or enter form data because memorized form entries are blank or I cannot enter any characters in the form fields, nothing happens and no characters are entered.

Note: this only happens in "normal" mode. When in "troubleshoot" mode everything works. This behavior is not caused by any add-ons or extensions since there are none installed, and the issue occurs even on the new install. Also, disabling "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above" seems to cure the problem, too, but of course that means some websites are unusable since they depend on specific fonts to appear properly.

I've tried all of the various methods to fix the issue in the Firefox documentation and here in the support forum, including a refresh, and a deletion and a complete new clean install, but nothing solves the issue.

The issue does not occur in Chrome or IE, only in Firefox. It also does not occur on Windows 10 and Ubuntu.

Any help would be appreciated.

When using Firefox, seemingly randomly the web browser will detect that the control button is pressed on the keyboard. There is nothing around the keyboard that has fallen on the control button, nor are sticky keys enabled in Windows 10. There been a few times now where I have been sitting back using the mouse only and Firefox to text at the control button is pressed and starts to zoom in or out because of that. The only way that I can stop it from happening is to click outside of Firefox on a different application and then go back. To attempt to fix this I've tried the following:

  1. restart firefox
  2. clear the cache, both manually and with ccleaner
  3. restarted windows
  4. checked for an update of firefox (I am at the latest version currently)
  5. diabled sticky keys in windows 10 completely
  6. tried a different keyboard

None of the above fixes have solved the problem that I am encountering. This issue does not happen in Google Chrome or any other application that I use it is specific to only Firefox. I looked for similar fixes before posting on here, and found two. One individual said that they fix this by changing their Wi-Fi adapter. I had tried to enable and disable this which had no effect. The second fix they said that they tried to restart the computer, which I have done no less than five times now in order try to solve is extremely irritating and functionality killing issue. Thanks guys.
