Youtube has this issue the most. On any other browser YouTube works fine; however, on firefox, videos sutter, play at a very low FPS and if I try to interact with the page like pause the video, it takes somewhere between 5 to 20 seconds for the site to respond and actually pause the video.

This happens on other websites as well that have interactive features

Additionally, when on sites like discord or LinkedIn, if a video starts playing and I pause it the audio will continue playing and loop and overlap over itself. The only way it will stop is if I refresh the site.

I have tried updating my video drivers, reinstalling them, changing all the settings possible on my computer to make it work but nothing yet. Thanks for the help.

I've been to several websites in the last couple of days that won't load in firefox, but will in chrome ( which I had to download to order groceries and I am not super happy about it ). the most egregious was today, I tried to order groceries from a major grocery store: meijer.com and the main page opened but if I like searched for "coke" it would freeze and nothing would load. not just coke, but also any other search term

Hello, so i have a hp laptop running on windows 11. I have 2 different wifi sources here at my home, one of them is a DSL zyxel modem from century link & the other is a Verizon internet gateway that runs off of cell towers. I recently logged into both of them to configure some of the settings etc. and in the past when i only had the DSL wifi, i would log into it via file explorer>network>network interface and then select the router & would automatically be taken to the login page. For the verizon wifi, i had to go into the browser searchbar ,while being connected to that network, and enter the default IP address of 192.168.0.1 and it would take me to the login page. I first logged into the DSL network and then for the first time ever, into the verizon one, and now when i try to login to the DSL network via my traditional method & also by inputting its IP address into the searchbar (both routers have the same default address to access setup), it takes me to the verizon login page regardless if im connected to it or not. If i input the DSL modems IP address into Edge browser while connected to it, it takes me to the correct login page for that network which leads me to believe that somehow something is messed up with my firefox browser. Ive already tried going into the saved passwords and deleting the saved verizon login info. Any other ideas as to what it could be? Thanks, JD

Firefox won't load. In Fact I have been trying to solve this, all to avail.

...BTW. this all happened as a result of me finally clicking the update button. I knew better. Just had a feeling that it would screw something up , and yes it did. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Also MSN is messed up as my home page. PLEASE fix this back like it used to be. Thank you.

I don't know why, but sometimes (like every 2 days), firefox crashes on startup, then opens itself after the crash but it don't load the previous tabs and deletes the pinned tabs, so I just have to favorite everything if I want to reliably keep tabs after closing the browser. The open previous tabs option is checked and working, but when the browser crashes on startup, the browser don't open them, so I keep losing them and the pinned tabs every once in a while (every 2 days, wich is quite frequent).

Hi,

I encountered an issue where I was getting really slow performance from a server, and I ruled out the server's query as being the issue. I ran the performance profiler, and I found that virtually all of the time was spent in the "Waiting to transmit the response" phase, found in the Network tab of the profile, when hovering over a long bar. In many cases, it was taking over 15 seconds, and there wasn't much information at all being sent from the server.

My question is, what exactly does that phase of the request cover? Could it involve the server not sending data fast enough? A network issue (DNS, proxies, etc.)? The client being low on resources at that moment?

Also, can someone please provide me a list of possible other areas of the profile, or anywhere else, to check to help me narrow down the cause of slow performance in this specific area?

Thanks!

Firefox updated yestarday. I see these changes: extension are gone, theme settings were switched from Dark to Light, "Startup -> Open previous windows and tabs" option went from checked to unchecked. These things are still fine: bookmarks, saved passwords and history. Tried reverting to older Firefox version, but it didn't help so I installed the new one again. I then checked profiles in AppData folder and I see three of them. The problematic one I just described, the one that was automatically created when I tried to downgrade to previous Firefox version and the one which only contains empty "parent.lock" file. There is nothing useful in "Extensions" folders (first profile has addblock extension file which I just installed, second profile has langpack extension file). I don't particularly care about which specific extensions I used since I can just reinstall them when I need them again, but one of those extensions contained custom written scripts which were running on specific sites to help me with my work. Those scripts are what I really want to recover.

I used to have Firefox update itself using automatic updates, and occasionally I would manually trigger an update by checking the HELP>ABOUT menu. For some time now, I am getting an error message inside the ABOUT pop-up window. The current message is "Unable to check for updates due to internal error".

I've un-installed and re-installed several times. It doesn't happen on other computers I own where updates work just fine.

I tried searching, but couldn't find anything relevant

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks !

For the last few months (perhaps concurrent with a Firefox update, but I don't remember), Firefox seems to be having problems with Google-sourced stuff. It's intermittent, but the most frequent failures are searches using either the address field or the dedicated search field - much of the time I just get a blank page, and at first it looks like it might be trying to load something, but after awhile the "X" abort icon changes to the reload icon, signaling that it thinks it is loaded or has given up. Success or failure seems to come in waves or phases, not completely random - immediately retrying will usually not work. If I can get to the Google home page by typing "google.com" directly (which has a much better batting average than searching in the address/search fields, although not always), I can search directly on the Google page without trouble for some mysterious reason (perhaps that fills the page using AJAX rather than reloading - I'm not sure). But then clicking on one of the results might not work, because that initially goes to a Google URL before redirecting to the requested page. I've resorted to extracting the page location from that redirection URL just to bypass Google.

Other Google services have problems, too. YouTube's home page usually loads outlines of videos, but sometimes it fails to fill in thumbnails and other details or does so VERY slowly. Occasionally even reCaptcha will fail to load when I'm trying to log into some site that uses it. And even when something appears to fully load and function (e.g. a couple Google Sheets I use daily), often the "stop loading this page" X and hourglass on the tab will remain, indicating that it thinks something is still loading (in that case, it seems to never time out - I either click the X or ignore it). All these types of failures started at the same time, so they seem to have a common cause.

I have not noticed any problems with sources that are not owned by Google. And Chrome and Edge have no problems at all. So apparently it's specifically Firefox and Google that are not getting along. I'm running Firefox 108.0.1 (in PortableApps, although located on my hard drive) on Windows 11.

These failures happen even if I start Firefox in troubleshooting mode (which proves it's not caused by an add-on) or open Google in a private window so that there are no cookies involved. Since Chrome works, I also tried using the User-Agent Switcher add-on to pretend I'm Chrome, but that also has no effect. I expected to see tons of other complaints about this on the web, but there have been surprisingly few, and the only suggestion that seemed relevant (and effective for some people) was to set "security.tls.enable_0rtt_data" to false, but that has not made any noticeable difference in my case.

I waited through a couple Firefox updates, hoping it would just get well, but I've lost patience. Are there any new ideas out there?

Hello,

I've just downloaded firefox, making the switch from chrome. Doing so I've migrated a couple of tabs and extensions I had. Totally it was 50 tabs, with 6 extensions, I've downgraded now with the switch and it's only 37 tabs and 2 extensions, even so firefox is using more ram than google by a large amount. With 50 tabs open, chrome was using 1.5gigabytes of memory. With the same 37 tabs and extensions, firefox is currently using 6 gigabytes of memory.

The tabs used are from reputable sources, so firefox shouldn't be breaking on these websites. The extensions I am using at the moment on firefox is, Ublock origin, Dark Reader.

As far as reputation goes, firefox should be using less Ram than chrome. Is there a setting I should know about to lower such performance issues? Firefox acceleration is ON.

Thank you for any answers.

Often, when I try to search on Google using the search bar, Firefox will load and load and load... and then fail to actually load up Google and search my query.

It doesn't matter if I do this on a new tab or an existing one, it will load and load for probably about 15-20 seconds, and then acts as if I didn't try to do anything at all.

Once it's had it's moment, and successfully fails to load Google, I can try again and it will instantly load Google when I try again, and will continue to do so for a while.

While this issue is happening, I can load any other website just fine. It only affects Google searches using the address bar.

Any idea on a solution or anything I can try to stop this issue occuring?

Hi,

After an update, Firefox does not recognize middle click at all. It worked in the past, but no longer. For example, middle clicking on... - a hyperlink should open a tab in the background - a bookmark bar item or bookmark menu should open that bookmark in background - empty space on the webpage should initiate autoscroll - a tab handle on the Firefox title bar area should close that tab None of these work as of now.

I'm on Windows 10, and I am using a Logitech MX Master 3 via USB Unifying receiver. I checked Logi Options+ app and confirmed the middle button is correctly set to middle button (default) and there's no per-app settings for Firefox.
