I've come back to Firefox for the first time since Chrome launched! Manifest V3 basically killing Ad Blockers was the last straw.

Anyway, I'm having an issue with Firefox and I can't figure out why - when I type in the start of a URL, it's sometimes suggesting sites that I've never visited / don't have book marked etc.

For example, if I type in d it automatically puts in dotesports.com - I've never visited this site, it's not bookmarked etc so I don't understand why it's being populated instead of sites I do visit that begin with the letter d. Please see attached screenshot Firefox D.

I've tried fiddling with my search settings, but it's not made a difference. Please see the attached screenshot.

I've checked my extensions, but they're all pretty standard / well known ones and none of them would be altering the search bar like this. I've attached a screenshot of my extensions.

Additionally, when I start typing in gm (expecting it to autofill gmail.com) it never seems to do so, even though it's one of my most visited websites. It doesn't have this problem with other websites I frequently visit, only gmail - any idea why this is / how I can fix it?

I want Google to return 100 search items in Firefox. All the descriptions of how to do this mean you have to do the search, then go to the end of the address bar and add &num=100 and enter.

This is very tedious so I set up a special bookmark which did it. So I'd do the search, then click the bookmark on the bookmark toolbar and it would expand the hits to 100. However, I've lost the bookmark and I can't remember how I did it.

When adding a bookmark to the toolbar you need to specify the URL. In this case the URL will be the generated address from the search, ie. the current URL each time. How can I specify the curent URL when it is a dynamic address? It needs to start with "http" in order for it to be in the right format to save.

Now, somebody at Mozilla decided to add Google trending searches to our non-Google searches. Since I want nothing to do with Google other than (grudgingly) having an email account, is there a way to remove all those trending searches in one swoop? I removed the initial bunch, then went back later, and there were more. TIA.

How do I change the site addresses that come up when I click the address bar? Time was I got a list of sites that I use often, perhaps several time in a day. I still use those sites but some have been replaced by addresses that I've used once or twice and probably won't use again for months. Where's the sense behind identifying as a "favourite" something I use twice in a week but not again and throwing out something I use week in and week out. How do I get rid of these interlopers?

I never installed Britannica and I don't want it to appear - I want to remove Britannica from my system altogether. But I don't have a Britannica app in my Settings list of apps and I never intstalled it. It's like a virus. Can anybody help me to get rid of it?

With search suggestions turned off and browser history completely cleared (all check boxes for all time), Firefox suggests AP News (apnews.com) when I click the search bar. This started kind of recently, though I'm not sure what version triggered the change. I'm not sure how to submit a bug report, so I'm posting here.

Why is it when I want to go to a different website, such as youtube.com or google.com, the bar will autofill because I've been to those websites multiple times. But after going to spotify.com numerous times, the autofill never shows up and I have to manually type in the whole "spotify.com" because the web search bar thinks I've never been there before. Why is that and can I fix it?

Why do I have search results of pages inside my adress bar, that I almost never use?

This goes mainly for Reddit.com and Tagesschau.de, as im from germany this seems really strange?

The site mentioned is newssite (Tagesschau.de) controverial at best and I never use it. I have no idea why its there, in 1 year I probably got redirected to there without knowing twice.

So it cant be the most used sites iam on, especially if there is reddit too. I dont have an account and do not use the site. Since when does firefox has Ads in their adress bar?

What is this and how do I get rid of it? I doubt that it is one of the most used sites in germany, it cant be for alot of simple reasons. Age of the userbase does not fit with the Internet User group. 50% of the country does not like them (tagesschau page). Germany is in the IT Darkages except the tech savvy youth and generation 1980 to this day. This newsgroup is targeted towards an older generation and is still heavily invested in TV not the Internet. As it is statemedia its also highly out of touch with the current more internet focused generations, so I doubt that its because they generate traffic or anything else.

Is there a way do blank all search results on default? And I would really like to know how this page got there.

I use same google account with google chrome, but google chrome doesn't show Japanese suggestion.

As for setting on Firefox, I unticked other than "show search suggestions".

How do I resolve it?

Thank you.

Before upgrading to Firefox 140, I would always quickly switch between my default DuckDuckGo and alternative search options, like Wikipedia, using the up and down arrows. I would just type the search term in the address bar and then tap the down key a couple of times before pressing enter if I wanted to use a different search engine.

The new address bar no longer seems to offer this option. I see I can still select alternative search engines using the mouse, but pressing the down key no longer lets me select them.

Is it possible to re-enable this way of quickly switching between search engines using the keyboard?

Hi all, I'm using Firefox 140.0.4 (64-bit) on Debian Trixie and I'm getting a weird behavior with the auto-complete functionality of the address bar.

If I type the first character the address gets auto filled (see 20250711_First-character-auto-fill-working.png attachment), then if I type the second character the auto filled result disappears (see 20250711_Second-character-auto-fill-NOT-working.png).

I've tried any search option combination, but results doesn't change. At the moment I'm using for the address bar just "Browsing history" (see 20250711_Address-bar-settings.png).

The correct behavior would be, as in the past, that new characters confirming the address would leave things as they are. Do you have any suggestion on how to restore the original behavior?

Many thanks,

Raoul
