Which icon do you mean?

Can you attach a screenshot for comparison?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

I don't have any issues seeing icons in YouTube. However, there are other sites I go to that the icons don't show up. I've attached a screenshot from my webmail. Those boxes with numbers and letters should be icons. This is what I see on other sites as well. When I use Chrome or Safari, the icons show up for those sites. I'm pretty sure this is a Firefox thing. Considering, I've read a number of posts regarding this from other forums.

Those icons are actually a font that is downloaded from the server. Firefox show a little box with the hex code instead.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and if the pref is user set (bold), reset via the right-click context menu to the default value.

Thanks cor-el. Checking "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" allows the icons to come up. However, other sites (like Hotmail.com) default back to their preferred ugly fonts. So, it's a "to gain something, you have to lose something" scenario.

Hopefully Firefox can fix this issue in future updates. It's annoying and inconvenient for us to have to always keep looking for workarounds all the time. I remember when Firefox JUST WORKED. No workarounds. But that was back in the pre 4.x days.
