I recently began using Xmarks with Firefox 16 on a Windows 7 platform. I got some sort of an error message (I think from Xmarks) regarding "Bookmarks". I clicked on the message to fix the problem and zapp all my bookmarks were gone. I found my "bookmarksbackup" profile file. but can't get it to open. I suppose that I need a JSON viewer. I downloaded a opensource viewer that looked good, but still don't get anything that remotely resembles my old bookmarks. I thought that I might be the victim of a virus, but I'm probably just the victim of my own ignorance.

Chosen solution

Additionally ,if the bookmarksbackup folder has files in it, you could try to Restore one of it via Firefox Bookmarks (Alt + B) > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup. Please also see this.

Alternatively you can also verify your Xmarks account for the bookmarks. If they had been successfully uploaded in the past, you can install Xmarks, sign into Firefox Xmarks and download the backup.

Thanks so much.......I had several years of hard work in those Bookmarks! I guess I really panicked when they disappeared. I just downloaded Xmarks recently and hadn't really investigated how the site works. You saved the day. Thanks, Pianonanda
