i deleted a password so that i could reset it, but firefox is not asking me if i want to remember the new one - what to do?

my husband and i were toggling between 2 gmail accounts and having trouble with the login, so i changed my password to his and then deleted both of our save passwords, thinking that i could train the computer to remember just one password, we wouldn't be having the problem but i deleted our saved passwords and we have not been prompted to save new ones.
