Since I upgraded to firefox 4. My bookmarks keep disappearing. I tried the solutions in the lost bookmarks section but that didn't help. Should I just uninstall firefox 4 and reinstall from scratch?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
