Why is my Firefox 4 extremely slow starting and uses over 50% of my cpu when running?

I have recently upgraded to Firefox 4 and it ran very well for 1 week. Now it starts very slowly (taking a good 2 minutes) and uses over 50% of my CPU when running. I have uninstalled it and re-installed it once. It then ran very well. I shut down my computer at night and the next morning Firefox again returns to extremely slow start up and running. Heeeeellllpppp!!!! Firefox has been my choice in browsers for the past 5 years.
