Why is Firefox no longer saving open tabs after a crash or unexpected shutdown?

With the last several versions of Firefox, when the browser crashes or if I have to do a force shutdown, the tabs in the browser windows that were open are no longer saved. I've followed help previously posted without success. I installed SeaMonkey this morning and when I do a force shutdown, my previously opened tabs are restored.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, what did you do to fix it? While I'm an experienced computer user, and have fixed issues with underlying code, I have been unable to restore Firefox to the way I want it. I'm sure the solution is simple but I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks. Feel free to write me direct at richt (a) automotivetraveler.com

This can be a problem with the file sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak and any existing files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js to prevent Firefox from restoring a previous session.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore

You can also check these prefs on the about:config page.

Is anyone sorting this problem? It seems that Firefox now clears/does not save history if the option to clear history on close is set, even when it crashes. Therefore after a crash windows and tabs are not restored as the history is used for the restore and a blank screen is shown instead (not even the home page) which is not very useful. Can someone confirm/sort this out please. Thanks
