Whenever I now try open firefox, i get a verification page with old looking captcha visuals that is required to open firefox. Why and how do I remove that.

This is Google page for restricting suspicious requests. Since you haven't posted this question from Firefox, the troubleshooting data has not been attached so there's no more details to look into. Just close the tab. Or if you have it set as homepage, set something else. If this doesn't stop after refreshing and any Google results produce this, consider trying a different search provider: Add or remove a search engine in Firefox
