saved passwords

I just replaced a laptop computer and am setting the new one up. I get prompted to save passwords but they do not show up in the saved passwords list. All I get is 'there are no saved passwords.'

so where are they now ?

hello rosaliy

can you try booting into windows safe-mode w/networking then retry your attempts?

perhaps, you can boot both machines as above and regain some more control.

btw: if the safemodes work out for you, then we probably solved 50% of what the problems may be causing your inconveniences.

keep us apprised.

i'll check back here, on tomorrow.  :-)

hello rosaliy,

there are a couple of ways to address this issue.

what i would first do is to open up the old laptop. be sure you are logged out of your FireFox account.

then do a manual export of your bookmarks, history and logins to files.

you will then need to save the files and copy them over to the new machine.

then open up the new laptop and FireFox, and import the data via the files above.

the above is only one methodology.

there are a couple of other ways to accomplish moving data from the old profile onto the new.

but i think this manual exporting and importing is something easy and safer.

So far I haven't been able to access any of the links suggested including the one to enable import from file. in addition I have a new issue regarding firefox accounts. I tried to log in in firefox using my own firefox account. Not only did that NOT work but firefox refuses to let me sign out and stay out. It took a lot of jumping through hoops between google and firefox to get my sister's firefox account enabled (the new laptop is hers) but it would let me log her in because it won't let me log out.

Actually - after much stumbling around I finally 'deleted' my firefox account entry and re-entered hers. this time it worked and the saved logins are now visible. So far everything is working as expected. Thanks for your time.

you're a genius!

btw: manually make regular exports of this data to files on the disk for those unexpected "oh oh" sitatuations
