I have version 86.0.1 running on a macbook pro. I followed the directions in the 'help' section and they do not apply to my version of firefox: Press the blue star, select bookmark and press delete. No such feature found. What can I do? Thank you.

Press the star in the right corner then click, at the bottom, remove bookmark. You might have the editor box ticked off.

I haven't found how to tick on the bookmark editor. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Do you see the star in the location/address bar ?

If the current tab is bookmarked then the star is highlight blue and if you click the highlighted star to open the "Edit this Bookmark" dialog where you can remove this bookmark.

If you do not see the star in the location bar then you may have accidentally removed the star via the right-click context menu (Remove from Address Bar). You can find items like the Bookmark Star in the drop-down menu that opens if you click the "Page actions" button (3-dot icon at the right end of the location/address bar). You can right-click an item in the 3-dot "Page actions" drop-down list to add its button to the location bar for easy access.

It doesn't seem to be effective. Here is a screen shot. It indicates that I can delete the bookmark but the bookmark doesn't go away when I press the delete button.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created. You may have to restore an older JSON backup in case the issue persists.
