I know this is a longshot. I used Firefox for the last couple of years with Seagull Scientific's BarTender software on my Windows 7 pc. Now my PC was wiped out and Windows 10 as part of my company's initiative to get everyone up to Windows 10. BarTender uses a driver to talk to your print drivers and provide a status back to the BarTender server and webpage that we use. After the move to Windows 10 Firefox will not work with BarTender. It works in MS Edge and Chrome.

I've got a ticket into Seagull Scientific and I can foresee how this will go. They will point me back to Firefox and then I'll get pointed back to the vendor. I know it will be hard to find someone with a similar issue. But maybe someone had some issue with another driver, etc that stopped talking to Firefox.
I've tried to turn off all of Firefox's protection stuff that might be interfering and still not working.
I have used Firefox and prefer it over any others. But I also don't like the idea of having to change browsers depending on what I'm doing. Besides, this software I have to regularly use. So if I can't find a solution I may have to abandon use of Firefox.

I don't have a good picture of where Firefox fits into this puzzle. The company's website says BarTender creates labels and barcodes. What are you doing in Firefox and where is it failing compared with before?

Do you know whether there is supposed to be BarTender extension installed in your browser to connect Firefox to a locally installed application? Do you see that in Chrome/Edge in the installed extensions list there?

Sorry. I updated this and had to retract. I'll do some more investigation.

Attached it what is should look like. It appears the browser makes a call. This was from IE Name Protocol Method Result Content type Received Time Initiator http://localhost:8632/BarTenderWebPrintService/GetPrinterStatus?printerName=BartenderZebra&rand=2165

If you copy/paste that URL to Firefox's address bar and try it there, do you get an error message?

Two other places to check for error messages are:

(1) Web Console - this is tab specific

You can open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Web Console
  • (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+k

Anything that sounds like it could be relevant?

More info on the web console: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Tools/Web_Console

(2) Browser Console - this monitors background messages and some tab messages

You can open the separate Browser Console window using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Browser Console
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Browser Console
  • (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+j

Click the trash can icon at the upper left to clear the window, then switch back over to your main window and try the non-working feature again.

Then switch back over to the Browser Console window. Did Firefox log any errors related to the action?

I pasted that link directly. I didn't get any messages, error or otherwise on the main screen. But in the console it basically say 401 - Unauthorized.

What's interesting is the console say that error for the following: http://localhost:8632/BarTenderWebPrintService/Landing?rand=1800

I don't know if that helps or not.

Hmm, "Unauthorized" could indicate that the BarTender application requires third-party cookies or some other prior login to serve the request. Hopefully someone with this application (or the vendor) can follow the trail of what is breaking.

I passed along the same information to the vendor. Maybe they can give me some further troubleshooting tests that I can do. I've made sure that Firefox is accepting all cookies and no limitations security wise. We will see. I'll pass anything I find from them back here. Thanks

I honestly hate these situations where a customer is caught in the middle of 2 vendors to resolve an issue. I'm trying to push the vendor (Seagull Scientific) to each reach out to Firefox support or at least point us in the right direction.
