Ok, Mom has windows 7. For last 3 months shes been using a laptop, on web page to get mail. Now she is home and wants to use her desktop with Thunderbird, as she did before.

Thunderbird remembers the PW. Sends it, but gets a response that its an invalid password. yet I can take that same password and using Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser and go to the website and logg in to get her email.

Any idea what is going on?

OK, I got this fixed.. She had to call Charter/Spectrum. And reset her passwords completely.

Once she did that, I remotely cleared out the passwords saved in Thunderbird. When she then used it to logg in to get mail, it asked her for the new ones, and it worked.

No idea why she had this problem.

What error message do you get?

Kinda hard for me to do that.. She is 150 miles away. I'm trying to figure this out remotely.

It keeps giving her an invalid password error.. Yet I can use that same password when I use chrome, firefox, or any other browser to go to the website to get her mail. Why it works on the browser and not Thunderbird (which is setup for imap servers), i have no idea..

The issue will be in settings most likely. What mail provider is it? My guess would be Yahoo or one of the accounts they provide on contract as they are the cowboys of the email world.

Ok update.. She called Charter/spectrum, they had her change dad's account password, (she forgot to do hers).. His now works, hers does not.

so I am having her logg into the webpage for her email and change the password there.. THEN, log out of that, and go to Thunderbird, and when it asks for her password to use the new one.. it should work, I think.

Dunno. Charter has changed so much in the last few years. I think they changed the password requirements to have to have a mix of capitals, numbers, letters, ect.

UGGG.. Mom used firefox to go to charter to log into the email client and instead of doing that, firefox loaded up Thunderbird.. Are these 2 programs now linked together?

Later tonight I am going to remotely load up chrome and have her use that to access her webmail, and change her password. THEN maybe we can get thunderbird to work again..

She is an older lady and gets frustrated fast.
