Hi,

First time posting on these forums. I am trying to learn how to defend myself against annoying tracking cookies, without downloading third-party software (just because).

As I am using FireFox I had a quick search on the web for the storage location of cookies from FireFox.

I've found the profile folder where cookies.sqlite should be but it isn't there. All there is is a few folders, listed:

cache2 jumpListCache OfflineCache safebrowsing startupCache thumbnails

Most of the folders have files that are encoded somehow so I can't read them. cache2 has two interesting folders in it, one in particular called "doomed". I opened one of the random files in it and it is some (presumably) JavaScript file that identifies itself as a "SurveyGizmo Interceptor Survey Beacon".

I am running the latest version of Windows 10

Can anyone point me where I need to go, please?

Chosen solution

hi, you've apparently not ended up in the profile folder but in %localappdata% where stuff like the cache and other temporary files are stored. you can just type "about:support" into the firefox address bar and there will be a shortcut to directly open your profile.

Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

Thanks Philip, that helped. I've now found the file and managed to edit it. Much appreciated!!

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location.

Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files (Local Directory on about:profiles).

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
