I tried to set up a second gmail account in my Thunderbird today.

Thunderbird keeps saying password incorrect. I know password is correct.

I got an alert from google saying an untrusted app tried to use my password and was blocked.

I have changed setting in gmail to allow untrusted apps but still can't connect.

Tried to contact gmail support but doesn't seem there is any.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. sorry if my mozilla account looks sparse. seems my account was deleted, had to create a new one to make this post.

p.p.s I'm using Thunderbird 60.8.0 on Ubuntu 16.04

If you are using POP you also need to enable that at google.

If you are using a VPN, something that is becoming increasingly popular you need to be aware that your location is masked. Google sees that new location as suspicious and often locks the account for 24 hours.

The simplest approach is to use oAuth as the authentication method on IMAP, as Google like that one so they don't have any settings on their web site to enable it.
