when I search received emails. the search list shows the email coming to a different email from the one in the email. Is this a bug or a setting?

Please see example screen shots. When I search in my inbox ("Search display.png" in this case for a worthless advertisement), the search display shows: to: St Peter's Music That is the name of one account we use in Thunderbird, but not the main one and not the one I've searched. If I display the actual email, it gets it right ("Email as viewed.png"). This is confusing, and causes some annoyance. All the accounts appear is Search like this, even though "St Peter's Music" is one of my lowest priority inboxes. Is this a bug or a setting? Can it be fixed, please?

Chosen solution

It's probably due to a corrupted search index, and since you're using the Global Search (Ctrl+K), you may get the correct result after rebuilding the database:

Also, to search a single folder, the Quick Filter Bar, Ctrl+Shift+K, may be preferable, or try Search Messages... from the folder right-click menu (Ctrl+Shift+F).

Thank you very much. A rebuild of the database fixed it.

I wasn't aware of the more local searches, as I work very much on the "affordances" I can see, though I should have noticed the folder menu on right-click had the option.

Most excellent and prompt response.
